भद्रे भद्रप्रदे दुर्गे दुर्गघ्ने दुर्गनाशिनि
O Auspicious one, bestower of good, O Durgā, destroyer of difficulties, remover of hardships.
सर्वस्वरूपे सर्वेशि सर्वबीजस्वरूपिणि
O you who are the form of all, O sovereign of all, O embodiment of the seed of all.
सर्वमङ्गलरूपे च सर्वमङ्गलदायिनि
O you who are the form of all auspiciousness, the giver of all auspiciousness.
निद्रे तन्द्रे क्षमे श्रद्धे तुष्टिपुष्टिस्वरूपिणि
O Sleep, O Drowsiness, O Forbearance, O Faith, O embodiment of satisfaction and nourishment.
दये जये महामाये प्रसीद जगदम्बिके 4.43.
O Compassion, O Victory, O Great Enchantress, be gracious, O Mother of the world.
लक्ष्मीर्नारायणक्रोडे स्रष्टुर्वक्षसि भारति
Lakṣmī is on Nārāyaṇa's lap, and Bhāratī is on the creator's chest.
कलाकाष्ठास्वरूपे च दिवारात्रिस्वरूपिणि
O you who are the very form of time and its divisions, who embody day and night,
कारणे सर्वशक्तीनां कृष्णस्योरसि राधिके
O Rādhā, who dwell on Kṛṣṇa’s chest as the source of all powers,
यशःस्वरूपे यशसां कारणे च यशःप्रदे
O you who are the essence of fame, the cause of all renown, and the bestower of glory,
समस्तकामिनीरूपे कलांशेन प्रसीद मे
O you who are the form of all desiring women, be gracious to me with a portion of your artful power,
प्रसीद परमानन्दे कारणे सर्वसंपदाम्
Be gracious, O supreme bliss, the cause of all prosperity,
आधारे सर्वजगतां रत्नाधारे वसुन्धरे ।। चराचरस्वरूपे च प्रसीद मम मा चिरम्
O support of all worlds, O earth, treasure-house of gems, O you who are the form of all that moves and is still, be gracious to me without delay,
योगस्वरूपे योगीशे योगदे योगकारणे
O you who are the essence of yoga, the lord of yogis, the giver and cause of yoga,
सर्वसिद्धिस्वरूपे च सर्वसिद्धिप्रदायिनि
O you who are the form of all perfections, the bestower of every accomplishment,
व्याख्यानं सर्वशास्त्राणां मतभेदे महेश्वरि 4.43.
O great goddess, you are the explanation of all scriptures, amidst all differing views,
केचिद्वदन्ति प्रकृतेः प्राधान्यं पुरुषस्य च
Some declare the primacy of Prakṛti, and some of Puruṣa,
महाविष्णोर्नाभिदेशे स्थितं तं कमलोद्भवम्
That one who was born from the lotus, situated at the navel of Mahāviṣṇu,
दृष्ट्वा स्तुतिं प्रकुर्वन्तं ब्रह्माणं रक्षितुं पुरा
Seeing Brahmā, who was offering praise in ancient times to seek protection,
नारायणस्त्वद्भक्त्या च जघान तौ महासुरौ
Nārāyaṇa, through your devotion, slew those two great demons,
अधुना रक्ष मामीशे प्रदग्धं विरहाग्निना
Now, O Lord, protect me, who am scorched by the fire of separation,
इत्युक्त्वा विरतः शंभुर्ददर्श गगनस्थिताम्
Having spoken thus, Śaṃbhu ceased and beheld her standing in the sky,
तप्तकाञ्चनवर्णाभां रत्नाभरणभूषिताम्
He saw her, radiant like molten gold, adorned with jeweled ornaments,
दृष्ट्वा तां विरहासक्तः पुनस्तुष्टाव सत्वरम्
Seeing her, overcome by longing, he again praised her swiftly,
दर्शयामासास्थिमालां स्वांगस्थं भस्मभूषणम् 4.43.
She revealed her garland of bones and the ashes adorning her own body.
इहलोके सुखं भुक्त्वा स याति शिवमन्दिरम्
Enjoying happiness in this world, he then goes to the abode of Shiva.
वसिष्ठस्य वचः श्रुत्वा सगणोऽपि हिमालयः
Hearing the words of Vasiṣṭha, Himālaya, along with his attendants,
अरुन्धती च तां मेनां बोधयामास कातराम्
And Arundhatī began to instruct Menā, who was anxious.
अरुन्धतीं भोजयित्वा बुभुजे भोगमुत्तमम्
After feeding Arundhatī, she enjoyed excellent pleasures.
ततः संभृतसंभारो वसिष्ठस्याज्ञया प्रिये
Then, having gathered all the necessary items, at Vasiṣṭha’s command, dear one,
ततः प्रस्थापयामास शिवं मङ्गलपत्रिकाम्
He then sent forth the auspicious wedding invitation to Shiva.
