By whom milk was made white, and water was made cold in ancient times—
Rising up with surpassing brilliance, for the embodiment of the form of light—
To the One who is the seed of all, the inner Self of all beings,
Having spoken thus, Dharma, the teacher of the world, stood before her.
Padma said: The Self within all, the knower of all, the knower of every principle,
How is it that you, knowing my mind, still deceive your servant?
And you were cursed by me, O Lord, out of ignorance, from a woman's nature, in anger.
If space, all the directions, and the winds were to perish,
And if you too were destroyed, then creation itself would come to an end.
In the Satya Yuga you are complete with four feet, like the full moon on the night of the full moon.
In the Treta Yuga, O Lord, there will be a loss of one foot for you.
At the end of the Kali Yuga, only one foot of yours will remain, and that too will be concealed.
In Satya Yuga you pervade all, but in the other ages, only in certain places.
Among all Vaiṣṇavas, among ascetics and celibates,
Among kings who are righteous, among the good, and among the true Vaiśya caste,
In these, you are always complete, O King of Dharma, you shine forth.
In the aśvattha, vaṭa, and bilva trees, and in tulasī and sandalwood,
In marriages, in flowers, and in the branches where you are present,
In the hearing of the Vedas and their limbs, in waters, in assemblies, and in places where the qualities and names of Śrī Kṛṣṇa are spoken and sung,
And in places of vows, worship, austerities, and as witness to sacrifices.
There will be a decline of righteousness in those places.
And among all unchaste women, in the houses of those who kill men,
Among those who steal the wealth of gods, teachers, brahmins, and the protected,
And in places of gluttony, drinking of liquor, and quarrels.
Among those who befriend thieves, in disputes, under the shade of palm trees, and among the arrogant,
Among those who live by harming oxen, carriers, goldsmiths, and those who make a living by violence,
And among twice-born who are devoid of initiation, daily rites, and devotion to Vishnu,
Among those who sell Shalagrama stones, liquor, scriptures, or land, O Lord,
And among men who harm those who are surrendered, destitute, or dependent,
Out of desire, anger, or greed, among those who give false testimony,
