आपातभ्रमसंपत्तिर्विद्युच्छ्रीरिव नाशिनी
Apparent fortune is deceptive and perishes like a flash of lightning.
गृही ददाति स्वसुतां राज्यसंपत्तिशालिने 4.41.
A householder gives his daughter to one endowed with royal prosperity.
को वदेच्छंकरो दुःखी कुबेरो यस्य किंकरः
Who would say Śaṅkara is poor, when Kubera is his servant?
निर्गुणः परमात्मा च य ईशः प्रकृतेः परः
He is the qualityless Supreme Self, the Lord beyond nature.
स एकः सृष्टिसंहारे स सर्वः सृष्टिकर्मणि
He alone is in creation and dissolution; he is all in the work of creation.
य ईशस्त्रिविधां मूर्तिं विधत्ते सृष्टिकर्मणि
He, the Lord, assumes three forms in the work of creation.
ब्रह्मा च ब्रह्मलोकस्थो विष्णुः क्षीरोदवासकृत्
Brahmā dwells in Brahmaloka, Viṣṇu abides in the Milk Ocean.
श्रीकृष्णश्च द्विधाभूतो द्विभुजश्च चतुर्भुजः
Śrī Kṛṣṇa appears in two forms: with two arms and with four arms.
तस्य देवस्य तेंऽशाश्च ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वराः
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara are portions of that divine Lord.
कृष्णः सृष्ट्युन्मुखश्चापि प्रकृतिं तत्र निर्ममे
Kṛṣṇa, intent on creation, fashioned Prakṛti there.
ततो डिम्भः समुद्भूतस्तन्मध्ये च महाविराट्
Then, from that, the cosmic egg arose, and within it, the great Virāṭ appeared.
नाभिपद्मोद्भवो ब्रह्मा तस्यैव जलशायिनः 4.41.
From the navel-lotus of the one who lies upon the waters, Brahmā was born.
महाविष्णुर्वामपार्श्वात्संभूतो विष्णुरेव च
From the left side of Mahāviṣṇu, Viṣṇu himself was manifested.
धत्ते चतुर्विधां मूर्तिं प्रकृतिः कृष्णसंभवा
Prakṛti, originating from Kṛṣṇa, assumes a fourfold form.
कृष्णवामांगसंभूता राधा रासेश्वरी स्वयम्
Rādhā, the sovereign of the rāsa dance, was born from Kṛṣṇa’s left side.
वक्षःस्थलोद्भवा लक्ष्मीः सर्वसंपत्स्वरूपिणी
Lakṣmī, the embodiment of all prosperity, was born from his chest.
निहत्य दानवान्सर्वान्देवेभ्यश्च श्रियं ददौ
Having slain all the Dānavas, she bestowed prosperity upon the gods.
नाम्ना सती शिवं प्राप दक्षस्तस्मै ददौ च ताम्
By name Satī, she attained Śiva; Dakṣa gave her to him.
पितॄणां मानसी कन्या मेनका तव गेहिनी
Menakā, the mind-born daughter of the ancestors, became your wife.
शिवा शिवस्य पत्नीयं शैल जन्मनिजन्मनि
Śivā, wife of Śiva, is born as the daughter of the mountain in each birth.
देहि त्वं स्वेच्छया कन्यां देहि भद्र शिवाय च 4.41.
Give your daughter as you wish; give her, O blessed one, to Śiva.
प्राक्तनाद्यस्य या कांता सा तं प्राप्नोति वल्लभम्
The beloved whom one had in a previous life, she attains him as her dear one.
विवाहे नोत्सुकः शंभुः स्वात्मारामश्च तत्त्ववित्
Śaṃbhu is not eager for marriage; he is self-content and a knower of truth.
देवानां पीडनं दृष्ट्वा ब्रह्मणा प्रार्थितो विभुः
Seeing the suffering of the gods, the Lord was entreated by Brahmā.
कृत्वा प्रतिज्ञां योगींद्रो दृष्ट्वा क्लेशमसंख्यकम्
Having made a vow, the lord of yogis, seeing their countless distress,
तामाश्वास्य वरं दत्त्वा जगाम निजमंदिरम्
Having comforted her and granted a boon, he went to his own abode.
नारायणश्च भगवान्ब्रह्मा धर्मश्च सांप्रतम्
Now, Nārāyaṇa, the Blessed Lord, Brahmā, and Dharma,
तत्र सर्वे मुदा युक्तैः समालोचनकर्तृभिः
There, all those engaged with joy in deliberation together.
तव प्रबोधने प्रीतिर्वर्द्धते महती सदा
Your delight in awakening ever grows greatly.
शिवां शिवाय शैलेंद्र स्वेच्छया चेन्न दास्यसि ।। । भविता वा विवाहश्च भवितव्यबलेन च
O lord of mountains, if you do not give Śivā to Śiva of your own will, then marriage will still occur by the force of destiny.
