भावानुरक्ता हर्षेण जगाम शिवसंनिधिम्
Devoted in her heart and joyful, she went into Shiva's presence.
सप्तप्रदक्षिणं कृत्वा सस्मिता प्रणनाम सा
After making seven circumambulations, she smiled and bowed.
सुंदरं लभ भर्तारं सुन्दरीत्याशिषं ददौ
She gave the blessing, 'May you obtain a handsome husband, O beautiful one.'
पुत्रस्ते भविता साध्वि नारायणसमो गुणैः
Your son will be virtuous, O noble lady, equal to Narayana in qualities.
ब्रह्माण्डेषु च सर्वेषु सर्वेषां च परा भव 4.39.
In all the universes, be supreme among all.
सप्तजन्मनि तुष्टोऽहं तत्फलं लभ सुन्दरि
For seven births I am pleased; receive that fruit, O beautiful one.
आस्था च यादृशी यासां सिद्धिस्तासां च तादृशी
As is their faith, so is their attainment.
दध्यौ योगासनं कृत्वा योगीशो व्याघ्रचर्मणि
The lord of yogis, seated on a tiger skin, entered into meditation.
चकार मार्जनं भक्त्या वह्निशौचेन वाससा
With devotion, he performed purification, cleansing with fire-purified garments.
अपूर्वं कांस्यपात्रस्थं नैवेद्यं प्रददौ किल
He offered unprecedented food, placed in a bronze vessel.
सुगन्धिचन्दनं चारु कस्तूरीकुङ्कुमान्वितम्
He offered fragrant, beautiful sandalwood, mixed with musk and saffron.
भक्त्या पूजां चकाराथ पुष्पवृष्टिं च तुष्टये
Then, with devotion, he performed worship and a shower of flowers for satisfaction.
रत्नप्रदीपशतकं समन्ताद्धूपमुत्तमम्
A hundred jeweled lamps and the finest incense on all sides.
सुगन्धिशीततोयं च पानार्थं पार्वती ददौ
And Parvati gave fragrant, cool water for drinking.
दुर्लभां कामधेनुं च स्वर्णशृङ्गसमन्विताम् 4.39.
She also gave the rare wish-fulfilling cow, adorned with golden horns.
दत्त्वा षोडशोपचारं प्रणनाम पुनः पुनः
Having offered the sixteen forms of worship, she bowed again and again.
शुश्रावाप्सरसां वक्त्राद्देवीमिन्द्रो महेश्वरः
The goddess, Indra, and Maheshvara heard from the mouths of the Apsaras.
दूतद्वारा कामदेवमानिनाय त्वरान्वितः
Through a messenger, he quickly brought Kamadeva with respect.
तूर्णं प्रस्थापयामास तं च यत्र शिवः शिवा
He promptly sent him to the place where Shiva and Parvati were.
प्रसन्नवदनः श्रीमान्यत्र शक्तियुतः शिवः
There was Shiva, radiant, gracious-faced, and endowed with power.
शान्तं त्रैलोक्यकान्तं च प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणम्
Peaceful, beloved of the three worlds, with a serene and smiling gaze.
चिक्षेपास्त्रं दुर्निवार्यममोघं शंकरे मुदा
With joy, he released an irresistible, unfailing weapon at Shankara.
आकाश इव निर्लिप्ते निर्लिप्ते परमात्मनि
Like the sky, untouched; untouched, like the Supreme Self.
चकम्पे पुरतः स्थित्वा दृष्ट्वा मृत्युंजयं विभुम्
Standing before the Lord, seeing the conqueror of death, he trembled.
चक्रुः स्तुतिं च स्तोत्रेण शंकरं त्रिदशेश्वरम् ।।4.39.५०. स्तुतिं कुर्वत्सु देवेषु स वह्निः शंभुसंभवः
They praised Shankara, Lord of the gods, with hymns of praise. While the gods offered praise, that fire, born of Shambhu,
जज्वालोर्ध्वशिखो दीप्तः प्रलयाग्निशिखोपमः भ्रामंभ्रामं च परितः पपात मदनोपरि
Blazed upward, its flames bright like the fire of dissolution, swirling all around, and fell upon Kama.
बभूव भस्मसात्कामः क्षणेन हरकोपतः
By Hara's wrath, Kama was reduced to ashes in a moment.
विललाप बहुतरं हरस्य पुरतो रतिः
Rati wept greatly before Hara.
रतिमूचुः सुराः सर्वे रुरुदुश्च मुहुर्मुहुः
All the gods consoled Rati, and they wept again and again.
वयं तं जीवयिष्यामो लभिष्यसि प्रियं पुनः
We will bring him back to life; you will regain your beloved again.
