सर्वरूपगुणाधारं मत्वा स्वमतिमानतः
Considering him the support of all forms and qualities, according to their own understanding—
सुन्दरीषु च सर्वासु मत्तो नास्त्येव सुन्दरी
Among all beautiful women, there is none more beautiful than me.
रूपयौवनवेषाणां पुमान्ग्राही स्वयोषिताम्
A man is captivated by the beauty, youth, and appearance of his own wife.
हृदीति मत्वा गिरिजा तस्थौ हिमगिरेर्गृहे
Thinking, 'He is in my heart,' Girijā remained in the house of the Lord of the Himalayas.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे तूर्णं दूतः शैलेन्द्रसंसदि
Meanwhile, swiftly, a messenger arrived in the assembly of the King of Mountains.
दूत उवाच आजगाम महादेवः सगणो वृषवाहनः
The messenger said: 'The great Lord, Mahādeva, has come, along with his attendants, riding the bull.'
सिद्धिस्वरूपं सिद्धेशं योगीन्द्राणां गुरोर्गुरुम् 4.38.
He is the embodiment of perfection, the Lord of Siddhas, the teacher of the teachers of yogis.
परमात्मस्वरूपं च सगुणं निर्गुणं विभुम्
He is the very form of the Supreme Self, with attributes and without, all-pervading.
शैलो दूतवचः श्रुत्वा समुत्तस्थौ मुदाऽन्वितः
Hearing the messenger's words, the Mountain rose up, filled with joy.
देवी दूतवचः श्रुत्वा प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणा
The goddess, hearing the messenger's words, with a bright and cheerful face,
चकार वेषमतुलं दधार वस्त्रमुत्तमम्
Put on incomparable attire and donned the finest garments.
पारिजातप्रसूनानां मालां चन्दनसंयुताम्
She wore a garland of pārijāta flowers, mixed with sandalwood.
रत्नसिंहासनस्था सा ददर्श दर्पणे मुखम्
Seated on a jeweled throne, she gazed at her face in the mirror.
आरक्त नेत्रयुगलं निर्मलाञ्जनसंयुतम्
Her pair of eyes were reddish, adorned with pure collyrium.
सुकोमलौष्ठयुगुलं ताम्बूलरागसंयुतम्
Her pair of lips were soft and lovely, tinged with the red of betel.
रत्नकुंडलदीप्त्या च गंडस्थलविराजितम्
Her cheeks shone, adorned by the brilliance of jeweled earrings.
अत्यनिर्वचनीयं च दन्तपंक्तिमनोहरम् 4.38.
Her row of teeth was indescribably charming.
गजमुक्तासमायुक्तं सुचारुनासिकोत्तमम्
Her excellent nose, most beautiful, was adorned with an elephant pearl.
मालतीमाल्यसंयुक्तकबरीभारसंयुतम्
Her hair was adorned with a weight of locks, decorated with a garland of jasmine.
तप्तकाञ्चन वर्णाभं चारुवक्षःस्थलोज्ज्वलम्

स्थलपद्मप्रभामुष्टपदयुग्मं मनोहरम्

दधतं रत्नमञ्जीरं राजहंसानुकारि च
She wore jeweled anklets, and her gait imitated that of a royal swan.
करं सुकोमलतरं सुन्दरं कनकप्रभम्
Her hand was exceedingly soft, beautiful, and shone with the luster of gold.
बिभ्रत्सद्रत्नमुकुरं लीलाकमलमुज्ज्वलम् 4.38.

दृष्ट्वा स्वरूपमतुलं दध्यौ शङ्करमीश्वरम्
Upon seeing her incomparable form, he contemplated Śaṅkara, the Lord.
पितरं मातरं बन्धुं साध्वीवर्गं सहोदरम्
He thought of his father, mother, kin, the company of virtuous women, and his brother.
अथ शैलेश्वरस्तत्र ददर्श चन्द्रशेखरम्
Then, the Lord of the mountain beheld Candraśekhara, the moon-crested one.
