श्रीकृष्ण उवाच विरराम पूर्णतमो ध्यात्वा मां मनसा मुदा
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: The most complete one ceased, having joyfully meditated upon me in his mind.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे मां च ददर्श पुरतः स्थितम् ।।4.36.८०. न बभूव वितृष्णश्च लोचनाभ्यां त्रिलोचनः
Meanwhile, he saw me standing before him; the three-eyed one was not satisfied with his eyes.
पश्यन्निमेषरहित इति मत्वा स्वमानसे
Thinking in his mind, 'He gazes without blinking.'
सहस्रवदनोऽनन्तो भाग्यवांश्च चतुर्मुखः
The thousand-faced Ananta and the four-faced, fortunate Brahmā—
पश्यामि किं वा किं स्तौमि संप्राप्य नाथमीदृशम्
What do I see, or what do I praise, now that I have attained such a Lord?
स्व मानसे कुर्वतीदं शंकरे च तपस्विनि
Doing this in her own mind, and in Śaṅkara, the great ascetic,
एकैकवक्त्रं शुशुभे लोचनैश्च त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः। बभूव तेन तन्नाम पञ्चवक्त्रस्त्रिलोचनः
Each face shone with three eyes; thus, he became known as the five-faced, three-eyed one.
स्तवनादधिकप्रीतिः शिवस्य दर्शने मम
My delight in seeing Śiva increases even more through praise.
चक्षूंषि गुणरूपाणि तस्य ब्रह्मस्वरूपिणः
The eyes are the qualities and forms of him who is the very essence of Brahman.
सत्त्वांशेन दृशा शंभुः पश्यन्पाति च सात्त्विकान्
By the portion of sattva, Śambhu, seeing with his eyes, protects those of sattvic nature.
चक्षुषस्तामसात्पश्चाल्ललाटस्थाद्धरस्य च 4.36.
From the tamasic aspect of his eye, and from the forehead of Hara—
कोटितालप्रमाणश्च सूर्यकोटिसमप्रभः
Of immeasurable size, like ten million palmyra trees, and shining like ten million suns.
विभूतिगात्रः स विभुः सतीसंस्कारभस्मना
That all-pervading Lord, his body adorned with sacred ashes from Satī's funeral rites,
स्वात्मारामो यद्यपीशस्तथाऽपि पूर्णमब्दकम्
Though he is the master, delighting in his own self, still he remained fully immersed in sorrow.
प्रत्यङ्गं चापि तस्याश्च पपात यत्र यत्र ह
Wherever each limb of hers fell, at every such place,
तदा शवावशेषं च कृत्वा वक्षसि शंकरः
Then, having reduced the body to a mere corpse, Śaṃkara placed it upon his chest.
तदा गत्वा महेशं तं कृत्वा क्रोडे प्रबोध्य च
Then, going to that great Lord, taking him in his embrace and awakening him,
तदा शिवश्च संतुष्टः स्वं लोकं च जगाम ह
At that time, Śiva, being satisfied, departed to his own realm.
दिव्यस्रग्धारियोगेन नेच्छा नित्ये परे विभोः
By the power of divine garlands and ornaments, there is no desire in the eternal, supreme Lord.
न चेच्छा केशसंस्कारे स्वाङ्गवेषेण योगिनः
Nor is there desire among yogis for arranging their hair or adorning their own bodies.
गरुडद्वेषिणो नागाः शंकरं शरणं ययुः 4.36.
The serpents, enemies of Garuḍa, sought refuge in Śaṃkara.
न संवसामि गोलोके वैकुण्ठे तव वक्षसि 4.36.
I do not dwell in Goloka, nor in Vaikuṇṭha, nor upon your chest.
पञ्चवक्त्रेण मन्नाम यो हि गायत्यहर्निशम्
Whoever chants my name day and night with the five-faced mantra,
इत्येवं कथितं सर्वे शंकरस्य यशोऽमलम्
Thus has the spotless glory of Śaṃkara been told to all.
श्रीराधिकोवाच न शस्तं कथमुच्छिष्टं ब्रूहि संदेहभञ्जन
Śrī Rādhikā said: Tell me, how is leftover food not improper? Dispel my doubt.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच पापेन्धनानां दहने ज्वलदाग्निशिखोपमम्
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: For burning the sins of the wicked, it is like a blazing tongue of fire.
सनत्कुमारो वैकुण्ठमेकदा च जगाम ह
Once, Sanatkumāra went to Vaikuṇṭha.
तुष्टाव गूढैः स्तोत्रैश्च प्रणम्य भक्तितो मुदा
He praised with secret hymns, bowing joyfully with devotion.
प्राप्तमात्रेण तत्रैव भुक्तं तेनैव किंचन
As soon as he arrived there, he ate a little of what was present.
सिद्धाश्रमे च यद्दत्तं गुरवे शूलपाणिने
And what was given at Siddhāśrama to the guru Śūlapāṇi.
