तदा ममाज्ञया तूर्णं वञ्चितो माययाऽसुरः
Then, by my command, the demon was swiftly deceived by illusion.
तदा सिद्धाः सुरेन्द्राश्च मुनीन्द्रा मनवो मुदा 4.36.
At that time, the Siddhas, lords of the gods, great sages, and Manus rejoiced.
बभूव चूर्णस्तद्गर्वो जगाम बोधितो मया
Then, by my instruction, that demon's pride was reduced to dust.
अथ गर्वान्वितो रुद्रो हन्तुं त्रिपुरमुल्बणम्
Afterwards, Rudra, filled with pride, set out to destroy the fierce Tripura.
कोऽयं पतङ्गवद्दैत्य इति मत्वा ययौ रणम्
Thinking, 'Who is this demon, like a mere insect?' he went to battle.
चिरं बभूव समरं वर्षमेकं दिवानिशम्
The battle lasted for a long time—one year, day and night.
पृथिव्यां चरणं कृत्वा दैत्येन्द्रो मायया प्रिये
The lord of the demons, by illusion, set foot upon the earth, O beloved.
उत्तस्थौ शंकरस्तूर्णं हन्तुं दैत्यं जगत्प्रभुः
Then Śaṅkara, the lord of the world, quickly rose to slay the demon.
अस्त्राणि चापं चिच्छेद शङ्करस्यासुरो बली
The powerful demon cut Śaṅkara's weapons and bow.
जघान मुष्टिना रुद्रो दानवेन्द्रं प्रकोपतः
Rudra, enraged, struck the lord of the Dānavas with his fist.
क्षणेन चेतनां प्राप्य कोपाद्दानवपुंगवः
In a moment, regaining consciousness, the foremost Dānava, out of anger,
सरथे पातिते रुद्रे देवा देवर्षयो भिया 4.36.
When Rudra was cast from his chariot, the gods and divine sages were afraid.
हरः सस्मार मामेव निर्भयो भयकारणम्
Hara remembered me alone, fearless in the face of fear.
तदाऽहं कलया शीघ्रं वृषरूपं विधाय च
Then I, quickly, by my portion, assumed the form of a bull.
ददौ तस्मै स्वकवचं स्वशूलमरिमर्दनम्
I gave him my own armor and my trident, the destroyer of enemies.
मया दत्तेन शूलेन जघान त्रिपुरं हरः
With the trident given by me, Hara slew Tripura.
सद्यः पपात दैत्येन्द्रश्चूर्णीभूतश्च भूतले
At once, the lord of the Daityas fell, shattered to dust upon the earth.
तत्याज शङकरो दर्पं विघ्नबीजं ततो विभुः
Then Śaṅkara abandoned his pride, the seed of obstacles, O mighty one.
ततोऽहं वृषरूपेण वहामि तेन तं प्रियम्
After that, I, in the form of a bull, carry that beloved one with it.
मनःस्वरूपो ब्रह्मा मे ज्ञानरूपो महेश्वरः
Brahmā is my form as mind, Maheśvara is my form as knowledge.
निद्रादयः शक्तयो यास्ताः सर्वाः प्रकृतेः कलाः
All powers such as sleep are aspects of Prakṛti.
मम कल्याणाधिदेवो हर्षरूपो गणेश्वरः 4.36.
Gaṇeśvara, the lord of the hosts, is the deity presiding over my auspiciousness, and is of the nature of joy.
सर्वैश्वर्याधिदेवी मे सर्वगोलोकवासिनः
The goddess who presides over all sovereignty is mine, and all the residents of Goloka as well.
गोपाङ्गनास्तव कला अत एव मम प्रियाः
The cowherd women are your aspects, and therefore, they are dear to me.
तेजःस्वरूपः सूर्यश्च प्राणा मे वायवः स्मृताः
The sun is of the nature of brilliance, and the winds are remembered as my vital breaths.
मम शून्यो महाकाशो मदनो मानसोद्भवः
The great expanse of space is my emptiness, and Madana, born of the mind, is mine.
एतानि सृष्टिबीजानि महदादीनि चैव हि
These are the seeds of creation, beginning with the Mahat and so forth.
जीवो मे प्रतिबिम्बश्च कर्मभोगाधिकारकः
The individual soul is my reflection, the agent of experiencing the fruits of actions.
भक्तध्यानार्थदेहोऽयं मम स्वेच्छामयस्य च
This body, for the purpose of devotion and meditation, is of my own free will.
इत्येवं कथितं राधे शिवदर्पविमोचनम्
Thus, O Rādhā, the release from Śiva’s pride has been described.
