तदा ममाज्ञया ब्रह्मा स्नात्वा च जाह्नवीजले
Then, by my command, Brahma bathed in the waters of Jahnavi.
ते देवा मुनयः सर्वे प्रजग्मुः स्वालयं मुदा 4.35.
All the gods and sages joyfully returned to their own abodes.
विधिरागत्य गोलोकं संप्राप्य भारतीं सतीम्
Brahma, having arrived, attained Goloka and the virtuous Bhāratī.
वागीश्वरीं च संप्राप्य ब्रह्मा प्रमुदितः स्वयम्
He also attained Vāgīśvarī, and Brahma himself was delighted.
तत आगत्य मां नत्वा प्राप्य त्रैलोक्यमोहिनीम्
Then, having come and bowed to me, he attained the enchantress of the three worlds.
रतिं चिरतरं कृत्वा विरराम स्वयं विधिः
After enjoying pleasure for a long time, Brahma himself ceased.
काचित्स्वकर्मणा साध्वी पूज्या च स्थिरयौवना
A certain virtuous woman, honored and possessing enduring youth, acts according to her own karma.
विदग्धाया विदग्धेन संगमो गुणवान्भवेत्
Union between the clever and the clever is endowed with virtue.
अस्वतन्त्रः पराधीनः का रतिः पुंश्चलीषु मे
How can there be pleasure for me with fickle women, when I am not independent but subject to others?
ददृशुब्रर्ह्मलोकस्थास्तां देवीं कौतुकान्विताः
Those dwelling in Brahma-loka saw that goddess, filled with curiosity.
शरच्छीतांशुवदनां शरत्पङ्कजलोचनाम्
Her face was like the autumn moon, her eyes like autumn lotuses.
मुक्तापङ्क्तिविनिन्द्यैकदन्तपङ्क्तिमनोहराम् 4.35.
Her row of teeth surpassed pearls, and her single row of teeth was enchanting.
रत्नकुण्डलयुग्मेन कर्णमूलविराजिताम्
She shone at the base of her ears with a pair of jeweled earrings.
वह्निशुद्धांशुकं सूक्ष्मं बिभ्रतीं नवयौवनाम्
She wore a fine garment purified by fire, and possessed fresh youth.
वीणापुस्तकहस्तां च व्याख्यामुद्राकरां वराम्
She held a vīṇā and a book in her hands, and her hand formed the gesture of explanation, most excellent.
पुरीं प्रवेशयामासुर्ब्रह्माणं भारतीं मुदा
With joy, they caused Bhāratī to enter the city of Brahma.
अतीव सुखसंभोगे निमग्नः सततं मुदा
He was deeply immersed in exceedingly pleasurable enjoyment, always with delight.
प्राणेशवचनं श्रुत्वा प्रहस्य परमेश्वरी
Hearing the words of the lord of life, the supreme goddess laughed.
श्रीराधिकोवाच न कर्मक्षेत्रे रहसि फलदाता च कर्मणाम्
Śrī Rādhikā said: 'In the field of action, in secret, the giver of the fruits of actions is also present.'
उपस्थितायास्त्यागे च महान्दोषो हि योषितः
For a woman, there is a great fault in abandoning one who is present.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच अकथ्यं गोपनीयं च महतामभिनिन्दितम् ।। 4.35.
Śrī Krishna said: It is unspeakable, to be kept secret, and condemned by the great.
एकदा च प्रजाः स्रष्टुं विधाता प्रेरितो मया
Once, the Creator, prompted by me, set out to create beings.
सनकं च सनन्दं च सनातनमनुत्तमम्
Sanaka, Sananda, Sanātana, and the unsurpassed one,
असितं कपिलं सिद्धं सिद्धान्मम कुलोद्भवान्
Asita, Kapila, the accomplished Siddha—these were born in my lineage.
प्रजाः स्रष्टुं प्रेरकं च जनकं तेऽवमन्य च
To create beings, he appointed as progenitors these and others as well.
तदा रुष्टो जगद्धाता पुनः पुत्रान्विनिर्ममे
Then, the Lord of the world, angered, created sons again.
तस्मिन्प्रयुज्य तरसा पुनः पुत्रान्विनिर्ममे
With force, he again produced sons at that time.
वसिष्ठं पुलहं चैव क्रतुमङ्गिरसं तथा
Vasiṣṭha, Pulaha, Kratu, and Aṅgiras as well,
मरीचिं च विनिर्माय प्रजाः स्रष्टुं नियुज्य च
Having created Marīci too, he appointed them to create beings.
कृष्णस्य कामिनः पुत्रः कामदेवो बभूव ह
From Krishna, the passionate one, was born a son—Kāmadeva.
