मृतद्विजानां देहांश्च दैवाच्छूद्रा वहन्ति चेत्
If, by fate, the bodies of dead twice-born are carried by śūdras,
ततस्तेषां च साहाय्यं करोति हरिरूपिणी
Then she, in the form of Hari, assists them.
जन्म पुण्यवतां गेहे कारयित्वा च भारते
Causing birth in the house of the virtuous in Bhārata,
यात्रां कृत्वा तु यः शुद्धौ स्नातुं याति सुरेश्वरीम्
Whoever, after making a pilgrimage, goes to bathe in the pure goddess of the gods,
गङ्गां प्राप्यानुषङ्गेण स्नाति चेत्समलो नरः
If a man bathes in the Ganga, even incidentally, he becomes purified.
कलौ पञ्च सहस्राब्दं स्थितिस्तस्याश्च भारते
In the Kali age, her presence in Bharata will last for five thousand years.
कलौ दशसहस्राणि वर्षाणि प्रतिमा मम 4.34.
In the Kali age, my image will remain for ten thousand years.
अतलं याति या धारा सा च भोगवती स्मृता
The stream that goes to Atala is known as Bhogavati.
आकरामूल्यरत्नानां मणीन्द्राणां च संततम्
It is filled continuously with gems and jewels of great value.
स्वयं देवी च वैकुण्ठं वेष्टयित्वा च संततम्
The goddess herself always encircles Vaikuntha.
अस्या विनाशः प्रलये नास्त्येव दुहितुर्मम
There is no destruction of her except at the dissolution, O daughter of mine.
इत्येवं कथितं सर्वं जाह्नवीजन्म पुण्यदम्
Thus, the entire story of Jahnavi's birth, bestowing merit, has been told.
नारायणश्च ब्रह्माणमुवाच कृपया पुनः
And Narayana spoke again to Brahma with compassion.
श्रीनारायण उवाच अत्र स्नात्वाऽभिशप्तस्त्वं पूतो भव ममाज्ञया
Sri Narayana said: By my command, bathe here and, though cursed, become purified.
त्वं चेत्सत्यं स्वयं पूतः स्पर्शं वाञ्छन्ति तानि ते
If you are truly purified yourself, they desire your touch.
तथापि शापमुक्तस्त्वमत्र प्रकृतिहेलनात्
Still, you are freed from the curse here because of the offense against Prakriti.
शीघ्रं त्वं गच्छ गोलोकं ममालयं परात्परम्
Quickly go to Goloka, my supreme abode.
प्रकृतिं भज कल्याण सृष्टिबीजस्वरूपिणीम्
Worship Prakriti, the auspicious one, who is the form of the seed of creation.
तव मन्त्रं न गृह्णन्ति केऽपि वेश्याऽभिशापतः
No one accepts your mantra because of the curse of the courtesan.
त्वमेव जगतां धाता स्वात्मारामश्च योषितः
You alone are the sustainer of the worlds, and you delight in your own self, O women.
तदा ममाज्ञया ब्रह्मा स्नात्वा च जाह्नवीजले
Then, by my command, Brahma bathed in the waters of Jahnavi.
ते देवा मुनयः सर्वे प्रजग्मुः स्वालयं मुदा 4.35.
All the gods and sages joyfully returned to their own abodes.
विधिरागत्य गोलोकं संप्राप्य भारतीं सतीम्
Brahma, having arrived, attained Goloka and the virtuous Bhāratī.
वागीश्वरीं च संप्राप्य ब्रह्मा प्रमुदितः स्वयम्
He also attained Vāgīśvarī, and Brahma himself was delighted.
तत आगत्य मां नत्वा प्राप्य त्रैलोक्यमोहिनीम्
Then, having come and bowed to me, he attained the enchantress of the three worlds.
रतिं चिरतरं कृत्वा विरराम स्वयं विधिः
After enjoying pleasure for a long time, Brahma himself ceased.
काचित्स्वकर्मणा साध्वी पूज्या च स्थिरयौवना
A certain virtuous woman, honored and possessing enduring youth, acts according to her own karma.
विदग्धाया विदग्धेन संगमो गुणवान्भवेत्
Union between the clever and the clever is endowed with virtue.
अस्वतन्त्रः पराधीनः का रतिः पुंश्चलीषु मे
How can there be pleasure for me with fickle women, when I am not independent but subject to others?
ददृशुब्रर्ह्मलोकस्थास्तां देवीं कौतुकान्विताः
Those dwelling in Brahma-loka saw that goddess, filled with curiosity.
