गत्वा प्रणम्य द्रुमिलं कान्ता कान्तं मनोहरम्
Having gone, she bowed to Drumila, her beloved, enchanting to behold.
कलावतीवचः श्रुत्वा प्रहृष्टवदनेक्षणः
Hearing Kalavati's words, his face lit up with joy.
द्रुमिल उवाच वैष्णवो भविता बालस्त्वं च भाग्यवती सती
Drumila said: 'You will have a son who is a Vaishnava, and you, chaste lady, will be fortunate.'
यद्गर्भे वैष्णवो जातो यस्य वीर्येण वा सति
Whichever womb a Vaishnava is born from, or by whose seed, O chaste one,
तौ च विष्णुविमानेन सद्रत्ननिर्मितेन च
Both will ascend in a Vishnu-airplane, made of precious gems.
कस्यचिद्ब्राह्मणस्यैव गेहं गच्छ शुभानने
Go, O auspicious-faced one, to the house of some Brahmin.
इत्युक्त्वा गोपराजश्च स्नात्वा कृत्वा तु तर्पणम्
Having said this, the king of cowherds bathed and performed the offering.
अश्वानां च चतुर्लक्षं गजानां लक्षमेव च
There were four hundred thousand horses and one hundred thousand elephants.
उच्चैःश्रवः पञ्चलक्षं रथानां च सहस्रकम्
Uccaiḥśravas numbered five hundred thousand, and there were a thousand chariots.
गवां द्वादशलक्षं च महिषाणां त्रिलक्षकम् 1.20.
There were twelve hundred thousand cows and three hundred thousand buffaloes.
पारावतानां लक्षं च शुकानां च शतं मुने
O sage, he gave a hundred thousand doves and a hundred parrots.
ग्रामाणां च सहस्रं च नगराणां शतं शतम्
He gave a thousand villages and a hundred times a hundred cities.
शतकोटिं सुवर्णानां रत्नानां च सहस्रकम्
He gave a hundred crores of gold coins and a thousand gems.
ददौ तैजसपात्राणां भूषणानामसंख्यकम्
He gave countless golden vessels and ornaments.
राज्यं दत्त्वा महाराजोऽप्यन्तर्बाह्ये हरिं स्मरन् ।। जगाम बदरीं गोपो मनोगामी मुदाऽन्वितः
Having given away his kingdom, the great king, remembering Hari within and without, joyfully went to Badarī as a cowherd, his mind fulfilled.
तत्र मासं तपः कृत्वा गङ्गातीरे मनोहरे
There, on the beautiful bank of the Ganges, he performed austerities for a month.
स च विष्णुविमानेन रत्नेन्द्रनिर्मितेन च
He then ascended to heaven in a celestial chariot made by the lord of jewels, Vishnu.
तत्र प्राप हरेर्दास्यं हरिदासो बभूव सः
There he attained the service of Hari and became a servant of Hari.
गते कलावती नाथे उच्चैश्च प्ररुरोद ह
When her lord departed, Kalāvatī wept aloud.
ब्राह्मणो मातरित्युक्त्वा तां गृहीत्वा मुदाऽन्वितः 1.20.
A brāhmaṇa, saying 'Mother,' took her with joy.
सा विप्रगेहे साध्वी च सुषाव तनयं वरम्
That virtuous woman gave birth to an excellent son in the brāhmaṇa's house.
तत्रस्था योषितः सर्वा ददृशुर्बालकं शुभम्
All the women present there saw the auspicious boy.
कामदेवाधिकं रूपे चन्द्राधिकशुभाननम्
He surpassed Kāmadeva in beauty, and his face was more radiant than the moon.
हस्तपादादिवलितं सुकपोलं मनोहरम्
He had charming hands and feet, lovely cheeks, and was captivating to behold.
करयुग्मं वाऽतुलं च रुदन्तं च स्तनार्थिनम्
His two hands were restless, and he cried, seeking his mother's breast.
पुपोष ब्राह्मणस्तां च सपुत्रां च यथा सुताम्
The brāhmaṇa cared for her and her son as if they were his own children.
सौतिरुवाच जातिस्मरो ज्ञानयुक्तः पूर्वमन्त्रस्मृतः सदा
Sauti said: He was one who remembered his past births, endowed with knowledge, and always recalled former mantras.
गीयते सततं कृष्णयशोनामगुणादिकम्
The glories, names, and virtues of Krishna are always sung.
कृष्णसम्बन्धिनीं गाथां शृणोति यत्र तत्र वै
Wherever one hears a verse connected to Krishna,
धूलिधूसरसर्वाङ्गो धूलिनैवेद्यमीप्सितम्
His whole body becomes covered in dust, and he desires an offering of dust.
