May I, devoted in mind to you alone, be your servant, birth after birth.
Having spoken thus, Mohinī immediately, before Brahmā, the creator of the worlds—
Recognizing the situation, the creator, trembling with fear, addressed her.
Brahmā said: Do not, throughout the three worlds, become a cause of disgrace for women.
Abandon me, O Mother, as one would a son, an old man, or one without desire.
From conception, a wife obtains from her husband, whether good or bad, the fruit of his actions.
O virtuous one, there can be no union of pleasure between you and me.
As Brahmā spoke thus, remembering my lotus feet—
At that very moment, that beautiful place quickly—
Atri, Pulastya, Pulaha, Vasiṣṭha, Kratu, and Aṅgirā—
Asuri, Pracetas, Śukra himself, and Bṛhaspati—
Sanaka, Sananda, Kardama, and Sanātana—
Śātātapa, Pippala, Śaṃku, Śukra, and Parāśara—
Durvāsas, Jaratkāru, Āstīka, and Vibhāṇḍaka—
Seeing those ascetics devoted to austerity and the eminent sages who had arrived,
There, the creator of the universe resided, and she remained beside that abode.
Brahma bestowed blessings and the Lord caused them to dwell there.
The sages questioned the deity: 'How has she come to be near you?'
Hearing the words of the sages, Prajapati spoke to them.
After performing an unprecedented dance and song for a long time, bringing auspiciousness, the creator of the worlds, having said this, laughed in the assembly of sages.
All the sages, who were omniscient, laughed there, O Radhika.
Immediately, the courtesan grew angry, feigning laughter in the assembly.
With eyes like red lotuses and lips trembling with wrath, she addressed Brahma, the daughter of Death, as if in anger.
Mohini spoke:
What is the action prescribed by the Vedas, and what is its opposite?
How can you desire your own daughter, and why do you laugh at the dancer?
That which contradicts the deeds of the virtuous is utter mockery.
Because you laugh with pride, you will soon become unworthy of worship.
Hear the words, O Brahma, concerning the prostitute at this very moment.
Obstacles will arise for her, and she will become an object of ridicule.
