निम्बारण्ये मधुवने जम्बीरकानने तथा
In the nimb forests, in Madhuvana, and also in the jambīra groves,
बदरीकानने बिल्ववने नारिङ्गकानने
In the badarī groves, in the bilva forests, and in the nāriṅga groves,
मन्दारकानने तालवने चूतवने तथा
In the Mandara grove, the palm grove, and likewise the mango grove,
आम्रातकवने जम्बूगहने शालकानने
In the amrataka grove, the jambu thicket, and the shala forest,
न्यग्रोधगहने घोरे तथा श्रीखण्डकानने
In the terrifying banyan thicket and also the sandalwood grove,
एवं रेमे कौतुकेन कामात्त्रिंशद्दिवानिशम्
Thus, with delight and curiosity, he enjoyed for thirty days and nights.
न कामिनीनां कामश्च शृङ्गारेण निवर्तते
The desire of passionate women is never diminished by love.
जग्मुर्देवाः स्वगेहं च देव्यश्च मुनयस्तथा 4.28.
The gods, goddesses, and sages all returned to their own homes.
गेहे गेहे नृपेन्द्राणां लेभिरे जन्म भारते
In each household of the kings, births occurred throughout Bharata.
श्रीनारायण उवाच अतिप्रौढाश्च मानिन्यो नेश्वरं मेनिरे पतिम्
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The very proud women did not regard their husband as lord.
काश्चिदूचुरहो कृष्ण सस्मिता वक्रलोचनाः
Some, smiling with crooked eyes, said, 'Ah, Krishna!'
काश्चिदूचुरये कृष्ण स्वक्रोडेऽस्मांश्च कुर्विति
Some said, 'O Krishna, take us into your embrace.'
उवाच काचिद्दर्पेण प्रमत्ता प्राणवल्लभम्
One, intoxicated with pride, addressed her beloved.
उवाच काचिदीशं तं सिन्दूरं देहि मामिति
One said to the Lord, 'Give me sindura.'
कृत्वा कुन्तलसंस्कारं कुरु मे कबरीमिति
'Arrange my hair, make my locks beautiful,' said another.
स्वांगवेषविधायिन्यो भूषार्थं श्रुतिमूलयोः
They adorned themselves, seeking ornaments for their ears and roots.
पश्यन्ती तन्मुखाम्भोजं सस्मिता मैथुनाय च
Looking at his lotus-like face, smiling, they desired union.
जहार पीतवसनं कृत्वा नग्नं च कामिनी
A passionate woman removed her yellow garment and stood naked.
अलक्तकद्रवं देहि पादयोर्नखरेषु च 4.29.
'Apply alaktaka dye to my feet and nails,' she said.
नानाचित्रविचित्राढ्यां करु पत्रावलीमिति
'Make a leaf-pattern, rich with various colors and designs,' she said.
माधवो राधया सार्द्धमन्तर्धानं चकार ह
Madhava, together with Radha, disappeared from sight.
कलामानप्रकारं च शृंगारं च चकार ह
He engaged in various kinds of amorous play and expressions of love.
तटे तटे नदीनां च सर्वजन्तुविवर्जिते
On the banks of rivers, in places devoid of all creatures,
कालिन्दे च पुलिन्दे च मन्दिरे गन्धमादने
In Kalindi, in Pulinda, and in the temple on Gandhamadana,
पुष्पभद्रापुलिनजे पुष्पोद्याने सुपुष्पिते
On the sandbanks of the river Pushpabhadra, in a flower garden in full bloom,
जगाम मलयद्रोणीं रम्यां चन्दनवायुना
He went to the delightful valley of Malaya, scented by sandalwood breezes.
अतीव सुखसंभोगान्मूर्च्छां संप्राप्य राधिका
From the intense pleasure of their union, Radhika fell into a swoon.
दृष्ट्वा तां मूर्च्छितां कृष्णो घनश्रोणिपयोधराम्
Seeing her thus unconscious, Krishna, whose hips and breasts were full,
चेतनां कारयामास कृत्वा वक्षसि तन्द्रिताम् 4.29.
Restored her to consciousness, letting her rest upon his chest.
कबरीं रचयामास किंचिद्वामेन वक्रताम्
He arranged her hair, making it slightly wavy with his left hand.
