पुनः प्रजग्मुस्ता मत्ताः सुन्दरं रासमण्डलम्
Then those intoxicated ones again joyfully sang in the beautiful circle of the rāsa dance.
माधवीकेतकीकुन्दमालतीनां मनोहरैः
With the enchanting flowers of mādhavī, ketakī, kunda, and mālatī,
दृष्ट्वा च स्फुटितं पुष्पं चयनं कर्तुमीश्वरी
Seeing the fully blossomed flowers, the goddess prepared to gather them.
काश्चिन्नियोजयामास मालानिर्माणकर्मणि
She assigned some to the task of making garlands.
माला चन्दनताम्बूलं गोपीदत्तं च सुन्दरी
The beautiful one received garlands, sandalwood, and betel from the gopīs.
काश्चिन्नियोजनं चक्रुः कृष्णसङ्गीतकर्मणि
Some were engaged in the work of singing for Krishna.
एवं रासे रतिं कृत्वा लीलया हरिणा सह
Thus, in the rāsa, delighting in love with Hari in play,
पुष्पोद्यानेषु रम्येषु सरसां च तटेषु च 4.28.
In the lovely flower gardens and on the banks of the lakes,
अतीव निर्जनस्थाने श्मशाने गिरिगह्वरे
In very secluded places, in cremation grounds, and in mountain caves,
भाण्डीरे श्रीवने रम्ये कदम्बकानने तथा
In Bhāṇḍīra, in the beautiful Śrīvana, and likewise in the kadamba groves,
निम्बारण्ये मधुवने जम्बीरकानने तथा
In the nimb forests, in Madhuvana, and also in the jambīra groves,
बदरीकानने बिल्ववने नारिङ्गकानने
In the badarī groves, in the bilva forests, and in the nāriṅga groves,
मन्दारकानने तालवने चूतवने तथा
In the Mandara grove, the palm grove, and likewise the mango grove,
आम्रातकवने जम्बूगहने शालकानने
In the amrataka grove, the jambu thicket, and the shala forest,
न्यग्रोधगहने घोरे तथा श्रीखण्डकानने
In the terrifying banyan thicket and also the sandalwood grove,
एवं रेमे कौतुकेन कामात्त्रिंशद्दिवानिशम्
Thus, with delight and curiosity, he enjoyed for thirty days and nights.
न कामिनीनां कामश्च शृङ्गारेण निवर्तते
The desire of passionate women is never diminished by love.
जग्मुर्देवाः स्वगेहं च देव्यश्च मुनयस्तथा 4.28.
The gods, goddesses, and sages all returned to their own homes.
गेहे गेहे नृपेन्द्राणां लेभिरे जन्म भारते
In each household of the kings, births occurred throughout Bharata.
श्रीनारायण उवाच अतिप्रौढाश्च मानिन्यो नेश्वरं मेनिरे पतिम्
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The very proud women did not regard their husband as lord.
काश्चिदूचुरहो कृष्ण सस्मिता वक्रलोचनाः
Some, smiling with crooked eyes, said, 'Ah, Krishna!'
काश्चिदूचुरये कृष्ण स्वक्रोडेऽस्मांश्च कुर्विति
Some said, 'O Krishna, take us into your embrace.'
उवाच काचिद्दर्पेण प्रमत्ता प्राणवल्लभम्
One, intoxicated with pride, addressed her beloved.
उवाच काचिदीशं तं सिन्दूरं देहि मामिति
One said to the Lord, 'Give me sindura.'
कृत्वा कुन्तलसंस्कारं कुरु मे कबरीमिति
'Arrange my hair, make my locks beautiful,' said another.
स्वांगवेषविधायिन्यो भूषार्थं श्रुतिमूलयोः
They adorned themselves, seeking ornaments for their ears and roots.
पश्यन्ती तन्मुखाम्भोजं सस्मिता मैथुनाय च
Looking at his lotus-like face, smiling, they desired union.
जहार पीतवसनं कृत्वा नग्नं च कामिनी
A passionate woman removed her yellow garment and stood naked.
अलक्तकद्रवं देहि पादयोर्नखरेषु च 4.29.
'Apply alaktaka dye to my feet and nails,' she said.
नानाचित्रविचित्राढ्यां करु पत्रावलीमिति
'Make a leaf-pattern, rich with various colors and designs,' she said.
