एतस्मिन्नन्तरे तत्र सकामः सुरतोन्मुखः
Meanwhile, there, filled with desire and eager for union—
शृङ्गाराष्टप्रकारं च विपरीतादिकं विभुः
The Lord performed the eightfold acts of love, including the reverse and others.
कामशास्त्रेषु यद्गोप्यं चुम्बनाष्टविधं परम्
That which is kept secret in the treatises on love—the supreme eightfold art of kissing—
अङ्गैरङ्गानि प्रत्यङ्गैः प्रत्यङ्गानि स्मरातुरः
With limbs upon limbs, and with corresponding limbs upon corresponding limbs, the love-stricken ones—
शृङ्गारकुशलौ तौ तु कामशास्त्रसुपण्डितौ
Those two, skilled in amorous play and thoroughly learned in the science of love—
एवं गृहे गृहे रम्ये नानामूर्तिं विधाय च
In this way, in every beautiful house, assuming various forms—
गोपीनां नव लक्षाणि गोपानां च तथैव च
There were ninety thousand gopīs, and just as many gopas—
मुक्तकेशानि नग्नानि विच्छिन्नभूषणानि च
With loosened hair, unclothed, and with their ornaments scattered—
कङ्कणानां किंकिणीनां वलयानां च नारद
Of bracelets, anklets, and bangles, O Nārada—
एवं कृत्वा स्थलक्रीडां ययुस्तानि जलं मुदा 4.28.
Having thus played on land, they joyfully went to the water.
तूर्णं जलात्समुत्थाय वासांसि परिधाय च
Quickly rising from the water and putting on their garments—
चन्दनागुरुकस्तूरीद्रव्याणि पुष्पमालिकाः
Sandalwood, aloe, musk, and garlands of flowers—
सकर्पूरं च ताम्बूलं भुक्त्वा सर्वाणि कौतुकात्
Having enjoyed all these, along with camphor and betel, out of delight—
काचित्कामातुरा कृष्णं बलादाकृष्य कौतुकात्
One, overcome by desire, out of curiosity forcefully drew Kṛṣṇa—
काचित्कामप्रमत्ता च नग्नं कृत्वा तु माधवम्
Another, maddened by passion, made Mādhava unclothed—
युक्तिं शृण्वित्येवमुक्त्वा काचित्संगृह्य स्वामिनम्
Hearing her clever words, one seized her lord—
सस्मितं सकटाक्षं च मुखचन्द्रं स्तनोन्नतम्
With a smile, with sidelong glances, her moon-like face, and uplifted breasts—
काचित्कान्तं करे कृत्वा संस्थाप्य श्रोणिदेशतः
One, taking her beloved by the hand, placed him at her hip—
काचिच्चूडां समाकृष्य मयूरपिच्छकं ददौ
One, pulling down his crest, gave him a peacock feather—
प्रददौ स्वामिने कामात्प्रेमवर्धनहेतवे 4.28.
She gave it to her lord out of desire, as a means to increase love.
प्रेषयामास कृष्णस्य क्रोडे चन्दनचर्चिते
He sent her, adorned with sandalwood, into Krishna’s embrace.
नर्तनं कारयामास तं च काचिद्बलेन च
He made her dance, and compelled her with some force.
कांचित्कृत्वा तु नग्नां च कस्यैचिदंशुकं ददौ
He made one of them naked, and gave her a garment to cover herself.
तस्याश्च कबरीं रम्यां सुनिर्माणं चकार ह
He arranged her beautiful hair with great care.
अतिसूक्ष्मं चन्दनेन्दुं कौतुकात्तदधो ददौ
Out of amusement, he placed a very fine sandal paste and moon-shaped mark below.
वह्निशुद्धांशुकं चारु परिधार्य्य प्रयत्नतः
She carefully wore a lovely garment purified by fire.
दत्त्वा च मालतीमालां चुचुम्ब च पुनः पुनः
After giving her a garland of jasmine, he kissed her again and again.
प्रददौ नासिकामध्ये दुर्लभं गजमौक्तिकम्
He presented a rare elephant pearl for the middle of her nose.
चकार दन्तदलनं पक्वबिम्बाधरे वरे 4.28.
He cleaned her teeth, which were set in lips like ripe bimba fruit.
बहिश्चन्द्रोदये रम्ये पुष्पचन्दनचर्चिते
Outside, under the lovely rising moon, with flowers and sandalwood applied,
