षष्टिदण्डात्मिका यत्र प्रभाते च तिथित्रयम्
Where, in the morning, three lunar days together comprise sixty daṇḍas,
परत्रानशनं कृत्वा नित्यकृत्यं समाचरेत्
After fasting on the following day, one should perform daily duties.
तत्पूर्वदिवसे नित्यं व्रते कृत्वा परेऽहनि
Having observed the vow on the previous day, one should complete it on the next day.
वैष्णवानां यतीनां च विधवानां तथैव च
For Vaiṣṇavas, ascetics, and widows likewise,
शुक्लामेव तु कुर्वन्ति गृहिणो वैष्णवेतराः
Householders who are not Vaiṣṇavas perform only the bright fortnight.
शयनीबोधिनीमध्ये या कृष्णैकादशी भवेत्
When the Kṛṣṇa Ekādaśī falls between Śayanī and Bodhinī,
इत्येवं कथितो ब्रह्मन्निर्णयोऽयं श्रुतौ श्रुतः 4.26.
Thus, O Brahman, this decision has been declared as heard in the scripture.
कृत्वा हविष्यं पूर्वाह्णे न च भुङ्क्ते पुनर्जलम्
Having taken havis food in the forenoon, one does not drink water again.
ब्राह्मे मुहूर्ते चोत्थाय प्रातःकृत्यं विधाय च
Rising at the Brahma-muhurta and performing the morning duties,
व्रतोपवासं संकल्प्य श्रीकृष्णप्रीतिपूर्वकम्
Resolving to fast for the vow, with devotion to Śrī Kṛṣṇa,
नित्यपूजां दिने कृत्वा व्रतद्रव्यं समाहरेत्
Having performed daily worship, one should collect the materials for the vow.
आसनं वसनं पाद्यमर्घ्यं पुष्पानुलेपनम्
Seat, garment, water for washing feet, offering, flowers, and ointment.
गन्धं स्नानीयताम्बूले मधुपर्कं पुनर्जलम्
Fragrance, bathing water, betel, honey mixture, and fresh water.
उपविश्यासने पूतो धृत्वा धौतेयवाससी
Having sat upon a purified seat, wearing washed garments.
आरोप्य मङ्गलघटं धान्याधारे शुभे क्षणे
Placing the auspicious pot upon the vessel of grains at a favorable moment.
देवषट्कं समावाह्य पृथग्धान्यैः समाचरेत्
Having invoked the group of six deities, one should perform the rite with separate grains.
गणेश्वरं दिनकरं वह्निं विष्णुं शिवं शिवाम् 4.26.
Gaṇeśvara, the Sun, Fire, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and Śivā.
नाराध्य देवषट्कं च यदि कर्म समाचरेत्
If one performs the rite without worshipping the group of six deities,
इत्येवं कथितं सर्वं व्रताङ्गभूतमेव च
Thus, everything has been described, which constitutes the limbs of the vow.
सामवेदोक्तध्यानेन ध्यात्वा कृष्णं परात्परम्
By meditation as taught in the Sāma Veda, meditating upon Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme.
ध्यानं शृणु निगूढं च सर्वेषामपि वाञ्छितम्
Hear the secret meditation, desired by all.
नवीननीरदो यद्वच्छ्यामसुन्दरविग्रहम्
Just as a fresh rain cloud, with a beautiful dark form.
शरत्सूर्योदयाब्जानां प्रभामोचनलोचनम्
Eyes shining like the radiance of lotuses at sunrise in autumn.
गोपीलोचनकोणैश्च प्रसन्नैरतिसूचकैः
With the corners of his eyes resembling those of the gopīs, clear and exceedingly subtle.
रासमण्डलमध्यस्थं रासोल्लाससमुत्सुकम्
Situated in the center of the rāsa circle, eager for the joy of the dance.
कौस्तुभेन मणीन्द्रेण वक्षःस्थलसमुज्ज्वलम्
His chest resplendent with the foremost jewel, Kaustubha.
सद्रत्नसारनिर्माणं किरीटोज्ज्वलशेखरम् 4.26.
His crown is radiant, fashioned from the essence of excellent gems.
ध्यानासाध्यं दुराराध्यं ब्रह्मादीनां च वन्दितम्
Attainable through meditation, difficult to worship, and honored by Brahmā and others.
ध्यात्वाऽनेन तमावाह्य चोपहाराणि षोडश
Having meditated upon him in this way and invoked him, offer sixteen gifts.
आसनं स्वर्णनिर्माणं रत्नसारपरिच्छदम्
A seat made of gold, adorned with the essence of gems.
