Brahmā said: He whom the Blessed Lord protects—who in all the three worlds can harm him?
For the protection of both the humble and the great, and of the devotees as well.
O twice-born, the fool who hates a Vaiṣṇava, who is as dear as life to Viṣṇu,
Quickly go elsewhere, my child; now there is no protection for you.
What of Brahmā's world, or the cosmic egg, which can be burned to ashes in a moment?
Hearing Brahmā's words, the brāhmaṇa fled from there.
Out of fear, he cried to Śaṅkara, 'O ocean of mercy, protect me!'
The Lord of the distressed, who can destroy the worlds in an instant, spoke.
Śaṅkara said: You know the Vedas, you are all-knowing, yet your action is like that of a fool.
In the Vedas, the Purāṇas, and the Itihāsas, everywhere,
I, Brahmā, Indra, the Ādityas, and the Vasus,
All appear and disappear at the playful movement of his brow.
I, Brahmā, Lakṣmī, Durgā, Sarasvatī, and Rādhikā,
He always carefully protects both the humble and the great devotees.
He commands the invincible discus, equal to himself in brilliance.
Hearing the names of his own virtues causes great agitation.
A beloved woman is always dearer than life itself; indeed, no one is dearer than her.
O twice-born, for all people, their beloved is dearer even than their own body.
Who is dear or not dear to the Lord in the three worlds?
At the great dissolution, O Brahman, when the multitude of universes is flooded with water,
O brāhmaṇa, worship Govinda and remember His lotus feet.
Go quickly to Vaikuṇṭha; Vaikuṇṭha is your refuge.
Meanwhile, Kailāsa was pervaded by the brilliance of the discus.
All the inhabitants of Kailāsa were burned by the fierce flames.
Seeing the unbearable discus, Śaṅkara, the ocean of compassion,
If the accumulated power of my austerity and truth is real,
Pārvatī said: By my wish, out of great fear, let him quickly be free from fever.
Having spoken thus out of compassion, Śivā and Śiva ceased.
The lord of sages, with his mind, went to the abode of Vaikuṇṭha.
The brāhmaṇa saw Śrī Hari seated on a jeweled throne.
