गा वर्धयति नित्यं यस्तेन गोवर्धनः स्मृतः
He who always increases the cows is called Govardhana.
नित्यं ददाति गोभ्यो यो नवीनानि तृणानि च
He who always gives new grasses to the cows—
सर्वव्रतोपवासेषु सर्वेष्वेव तपःसु च
In all vows, fasts, and all austerities—
भुवः पर्यटने यत्तु सर्ववाक्येषु यद्भवेत् 4.21.
Whatever exists in the wandering of the earth, and in all words—
तत्पुण्यं लभते प्राज्ञो गोभ्यो दत्त्वा तृणानि च
A wise person attains that merit by giving grass to cows.
ब्रह्महत्या भवेत्तस्य प्रायश्चित्ताद्विशुध्यति
He incurs the sin of killing a Brahmin, but is purified through atonement.
तद्गुह्येषु स्वयं लक्ष्मीस्तिष्ठत्येव सदा पितः
In those secret places, O father, Lakshmi herself always abides.
तीर्थस्नातो भवेत्सद्यो जयस्तस्य पदेपदे
He immediately becomes as if bathed at a holy place, and victory is his at every step.
प्राणांस्त्यक्ता नरस्तत्र सद्यो मुक्तो भवेद्ध्रुवम्
If a man gives up his life there, he is instantly and certainly liberated.
ब्रह्महत्यासमं पापं भवेत्तस्य न संशयः
There is no doubt that the sin incurred is equal to Brahmin-murder.
कालसूत्रं च ते यान्ति यावच्चन्द्रदिवाकरौ
They go to the Kālasūtra hell for as long as the moon and sun endure.
आनन्दयुक्तो नन्दश्च तमुवाच स्मिताननः पौर्वापरीयं पूजेति महेन्द्रस्य महात्मनः
Filled with joy, Nanda, smiling, said to him: 'This ancient and future worship is for the great-souled Mahendra.'
पूजयन्ति व्रजस्थाश्च महेन्द्रं पुरुषक्रमात् 4.21.
The inhabitants of Vraja also worship Mahendra in due order.
हस्ती समुद्रादादाय करेण जलमीप्सितम् 4.21.
The elephant, taking the desired water from the ocean with his trunk—
यस्याज्ञया सदा वाति जगत्प्राणो जगत्त्रये 4.21.
By whose command the vital breath of the three worlds always blows—
निमेषाद्यस्य पतनं निर्गुणस्यात्मनः प्रभोः
The blinking and other movements belong to Him, the Lord, the attributeless Self.
पर्वतस्यमुनींद्राणां चकार पूजनं तदा 4.21.
Then he performed worship of the mountain and the best of sages.
स्तुत्वा नत्वा रामकृष्णौ मुनयो ब्राह्मणा ययुः 4.21.
Having praised and bowed to Rama and Krishna, the sages and Brahmins departed.
यत्र गेहे स्तोत्रमिदं यश्च जानाति पुण्यवान्
Wherever in a house this hymn is known by a virtuous person—
सहामरगणं मोघं चकारस्तंभनं विभुः 4.21.
The Lord rendered the efforts of the hosts of gods fruitless by causing them to be stunned.
भक्तध्यानाय सेवायै नानारूपधरं वरम्
For the sake of devotion, meditation, and service, He took on various forms.
कुत्रचिद्राधया सार्धं गच्छन्तं रासमंडलम् 4.21.
At some place, going together with Radha, to the circle of the rasa dance—
नारायण उवाच 4.21.
Nārāyaṇa said:
शुक्लरक्तपीतश्यामाभिधानगुणशालिने 4.21.
O you who are known by the names white, red, yellow, and dark, and who possess virtues.
राजत्वं चिरजीवित्वं सुधियो गणयन्ति किम् 4.21.
Why do the wise count kingship and long life as valuable?
स्तोत्रं तस्मै पुरा दत्तं ब्रह्मणा तत्सुदुर्लभम् 4.21.
To him, Brahmā once gave a hymn, which is exceedingly rare.
या यस्य विद्या प्राचीना न तां त्यजति निश्चितम् सुखदं मोक्षदं सारं भवबन्धविमोचनम्
Whatever knowledge one has acquired in the past, he certainly does not abandon it; it brings happiness, liberation, essence, and freedom from worldly bondage.
एकदा राधिकानाथो बलेन सह बालकैः
Once, the Lord of Rādhikā, together with Balarāma and the boys,
वृक्षाणां रक्षिता दैत्यः खर रूपी च धेनुकः
The demon Dhenuka, in the form of a donkey, was the guardian of the trees.
शरीरं पर्वतसमं कूपतुल्ये च लोचने
His body was like a mountain, and his eyes were like wells.
