किं स्तौमि किं करोमीति मनसैवं प्रगृह्य च
What shall I praise, what shall I do—thus reflecting in his mind,
सुखं योगासनं कृत्वा बभूव संपुटाञ्जलिः
He sat comfortably in a yogic posture, with his hands joined in reverence.
इडां सुषुम्नां मध्यां च पिङ्गलां नलिनीं धुराम्
He fixed his attention on the iḍā, suṣumnā, piṅgalā, the lotus, and the support (of the body).
मूलाधारं स्वाधिष्ठानं मणिपूरं मनोहरम्
The mūlādhāra, svādhiṣṭhāna, and the delightful maṇipūra (centers),
लङ्घनं कारयित्वा च तत्षट्चक्रं क्रमाद्विधिः
Having caused the energy to rise, he traversed the six chakras in order, as prescribed.
निबध्य वायुं मध्यां तामानीय हृदयाम्बुजम् 4.20.
Restraining the breath in the middle, he drew it to the lotus of the heart.
एवं कृत्वा तु निष्पन्दो यो दत्तो हरिणा पुरा
Having done so, he became motionless, as was once taught by Hari.
मुहूर्तं च जपं कृत्वा ध्यायंध्यायं पदाम्बुजम्
Chanting for a moment, he meditated again and again on the lotus feet.
तत्तेजसोऽन्तरे रूपमतीव सुमनोहरम्
Within that radiance appeared a form of surpassing beauty.
श्रुतिमूलस्थलन्यस्तज्वलन्मकरकुण्डलम्
With blazing makara earrings set at the base of the ears,
यद्दृष्टं ब्रह्मरन्ध्रे च हृदि तद्बहिरेव च
What was seen at the crown of the head, in the heart, and also outside,
यत्स्तोत्रं च पुरा दत्तं हरिणैकार्णवे मुने
That hymn which was once given by Hari in the one ocean, O sage,
ब्रह्मोवाच सर्वानिर्वचनीयं तं नमामि शिवरूपिणम्
Brahma said: I bow to him who is all beyond description, who has the form of Shiva.
नवीनजलदाकारं श्यामसुन्दरविग्रहम्
Of the appearance of a fresh raincloud, with a beautiful dark form,
स्वात्मारामं पूर्णकामं जगद्व्यापिजगत्परम्
Rejoicing in his own self, fulfilled in all desires, pervading and transcending the universe,
सर्वाधारं सर्ववरं सर्वशक्तिसमन्वितम् 4.20.
The support of all, the best of all, endowed with all powers.
सर्वमंत्रस्वरूपं च सर्वसंपत्करं वरम्
He is the very embodiment of all mantras, the bestower of all prosperity.
शक्तीशं शक्तिबीजं च शक्तिरूपधरं वरम्
He is the Lord of Shakti, the seed of Shakti, and the one who assumes the form of Shakti.
कृपालुं कर्णधारं च नमामि भक्तवत्सलम्
I bow to the compassionate helmsman, who is ever affectionate to his devotees.
सगुणं निर्गुणं ब्रह्म स्तौमि स्वेच्छास्वरूपिणम्
I praise Brahman, with and without attributes, whose form is according to his own will.
सर्वेन्द्रियस्वरूपं च विराड्रूपं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to him who is the essence of all the senses, who has the cosmic form.
सर्वमन्तस्वरूपं च नमामि परमेश्वरम्
I bow to the Supreme Lord, who is the embodiment of all mantras.
स्वतन्त्रमस्वतन्त्रं च यशोदानन्दनं भजे
I worship Yaśodā's son, who is both independent and dependent.
ध्यानासाध्यं विद्यमानं योगीन्द्राणां गुरुं भजे
I worship him who is attainable through meditation, who exists, and who is the guru of the greatest yogis.
गोपीभिः सेव्यमानं च तं धरेशं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to that Lord of the earth, who is served by the gopīs.
योगीशं योगसाध्यं च नमामि शिवसेवितम् ।।4.20.
I bow to the Lord of yogis, who is attainable through yoga, and who is served by Shiva.
मन्त्रसिद्धिस्वरूपं तं नमामि च परात्परम्
I bow to him who is the embodiment of mantra-siddhi, who is the supreme beyond the supreme.
पुण्यप्रदं च शुभदं शुभबीजं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to him who grants merit, brings auspiciousness, and is the seed of all good.
निपत्य दण्डवद्भूमौ रुरोद प्रणनाम च
Falling prostrate on the ground, he wept and offered obeisance.
ब्रह्मणा च कृतं स्तोत्रं नित्यं भक्त्या च यः पठेत्
Whoever recites with devotion this hymn composed by Brahmā every day—
