मूर्च्छां च प्राप सा शोकान्मृतेव च सरित्तटे
She too, from grief, fell unconscious on the riverbank, as if dead.
भूयोऽपि रोदनं कृत्वा भूयो मूर्च्छामवाप ह 4.19.
Again she wept, and again she fell into a faint.
गोपाश्च गोपिकाश्चैव राधिकामतिमूर्च्छिताम् सर्वांश्च बोधयामास बलश्च ज्ञानिनां वरः
The cowherds and cowherd girls, and Radhika, utterly unconscious—Bala, the best of the wise, revived them all.
श्रीबलदेव उवाच
Śrī Baladeva said:
हे नन्द ज्ञानिनां श्रेष्ठ गर्गवाक्यस्मृतिं कुरु
O Nanda, best among the wise, remember the words of Garga.
विधातुः संविधातुश्च भुवि कस्मात्पराजयः
How can there be defeat on earth for the Creator and the Ordainer?
विद्यमानोऽप्यविदृश्यः संयोगो योगिनामपि
Though present, yet unseen, his union is attained even by yogis.
नाग्निग्रस्तो न हिंस्यश्चापीदमाध्यात्मिका विदुः
He is not consumed by fire, nor harmed; the wise know this as pertaining to the inner self.
ज्योतिःस्वरूपस्य विभोर्नाद्यन्तमध्यमात्मनः
Of the Lord whose essence is light, the self has neither beginning, nor end, nor middle.
यन्नाभिपद्मजो ब्रह्मा तस्येशस्य ह्रदे विपत्
From whose navel-lotus Brahma was born, in whose lake of mastery he fell.
न तथाऽपि तदीशं तं ग्रस्तुं सर्पः क्षमो भवेत् 4.19.
Yet even then, the serpent was not able to devour that Lord.
निगूढं योगिनां सारं संशयच्छेदकारणम्
Hidden is the essence for yogis, the cause for the removal of doubt.
तत्याज शोकं नन्दश्च व्रजश्च व्रजयोषितः
Nanda, the people of Vraja, and the women of Vraja abandoned sorrow.
बन्धुविच्छेदविषये प्रबोधे न स्थितं मनः
Their minds did not remain steady in understanding the separation from relatives.
ददृशुस्तं सुप्रसन्ना व्रजाश्च व्रजयोषितः
The people of Vraja and the women of Vraja saw him, their hearts delighted.
अस्निग्धवस्त्रमस्निग्धमलुप्तचन्दनाञ्जनम्
His garment was unsmeared, his sandal and collyrium unblemished.
मयूरपिच्छचूडं च वंशीवदनमच्युतम्
He wore a peacock-feather crown, played the flute, and was unchanging.
चुचुम्ब वदनाम्भोजं प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणा
With faces bright and eyes cheerful, they kissed his lotus-face.
निमेषरहिताः सर्वे ददृशुः श्रीमुखं हरेः
All, without blinking, gazed upon the glorious face of Hari.
दावाग्निर्वेष्टयामास तैः सर्वैः सह गोकुलम् 4.19.
The forest fire began to encircle Gokula along with all of them.
प्रणाशं मेनिरे सर्वे भयमापुश्च संकटे बाला गोप्यश्च संत्रस्ता भक्तिनम्रात्मकन्धराः
All thought destruction was certain and were seized by fear in that peril; the children and the cowherd women, terrified, bowed their heads in devotion.
तथा रक्षां कुरु पुनर्दावाग्नेर्मधुसूदन
Thus, protect us again from the forest fire, O Madhusudana.
स्रष्टा पाता च संहर्ता जगतां च जगत्पते
O Lord of the universe, you are the creator, the sustainer, and the destroyer of all worlds.
यमः कुबेरः पवन ईशानाद्याश्च देवताः
Yama, Kubera, Vayu, Ishana, and the other deities,
मानवाश्च तथा दैत्या यक्षराक्षसकिंनराः
humans, as well as demons, yakshas, rakshasas, and kinnaras,
आविर्भावस्तिरोभावः सर्वेषां च तथेच्छया
the appearance and disappearance of all beings occur according to your will.
वयं त्वां शरणं यामो रक्ष नः शरणागतान्
We take refuge in you; protect us who have come to you for shelter.
दूरीभूतस्तु दावाग्निः श्रीकृष्णामृतदृष्टितः
The forest fire is driven far away by the nectar-like sight of Shri Krishna.
सर्वापदः प्रणश्यन्ति हरिस्मरणमात्रतः 4.19.
All calamities are destroyed merely by the remembrance of Hari.
वह्नितो न भवेत्तस्य भयं जन्मनि जन्मनि
For such a person, there is no fear of fire, birth after birth.
