त्रैलोक्यमोहिनी शान्ता कमलांशा कलावती
She is the enchantress of the three worlds, peaceful, a portion of Lakshmi, and skilled in the arts.
विदग्धाया विदग्धेन संबन्धो गुणवान्नृप उवाच तं नृपश्रेष्ठो विनयावनतो मुने 4.17.
A union between the clever girl and the clever, virtuous prince is fitting, O king,' said the best of kings, humbly, to the sage.
भनन्दन उवाच
Bhanandana said:
प्रजापतिर्योगकर्ता जन्मदाताऽहमेव च
I am the Prajapati, the arranger of unions, and indeed the giver of birth.
कर्मानुरूपफलदः सर्वेषां कारणं विधिः
I, Vidhi, am the giver of fruits according to deeds, the cause of all.
अन्यथा निष्फलं सर्वमनीशस्योद्यमो यथा
Otherwise, all effort is fruitless, just as it is for one without power.
पुरा भूतैव को वाऽहं केनान्येन निवार्यते
Who was I in a former birth? Who can prevent what is ordained by another?
मिष्टान्नं भोजयामास सादरेण च नारद
With respect, he served Nārada delicious food.
गत्वा स कथयामास सुरभानस्य संसदि
He went and spoke in the assembly of Surabhan.
संबन्धं योजयामास गर्गद्वारा च सत्वरम्
He quickly arranged the alliance through Garga.
गजरत्नमश्वरत्नं रत्नानि मणिभूषणम्
He gave elephant-jewels, horse-jewels, gems, and jeweled ornaments.
रेमे सुनिर्जने रम्ये बुबुधे न दिवानिशम् 4.17.
He delighted in a beautiful, secluded place, losing awareness of day and night.
व्याकुलो वृषभानुश्च क्षणेन च तया विना
Vṛṣabhānu became distressed in a moment by separation from her.
जातिस्मरो हरेरंशो वृषभानो मुदाऽन्वितः
Vṛṣabhānu, a portion of Hari and remembering his past births, was filled with joy.
सदा सकामा सा प्रौढा स च कामसमो युवा दैवात्सुदाम शापेन श्रीकृष्णस्याज्ञया पुरा
She was always fulfilled, mature, and he was a youth equal to Kāma; by fate, by Sudāma's curse, and by the command of Śrī Kṛṣṇa in former times.
अयोनिसंभवा सा च कृष्णप्राणाधिका सती
She was not born from a womb, and, being devoted, held Kṛṣṇa dearer than life.
स्थानान्तरं विश्वकर्मा जगाम स्वगणैः सह
Viśvakarman went to another place along with his attendants.
क्रोशमात्रं स्थलं चारु मनसाऽऽलोच्य तत्त्ववित्
He considered with his mind a charming place, a krośa in extent, understanding the truth.
कृत्वाऽनुमानं बुद्ध्या च सर्वतोऽपि विलक्षणम्
He made an inference with his intellect, finding it unique in every way.
दुर्लङ्घ्याभिर्वैरिभिश्च खनिताभिश्च प्रस्तरैः
It was impassable for enemies, with rocks that had been dug out.
चारु चम्पकवृक्षैश्च पुष्पितैः सुमनोहरैः 4.17.
It was adorned with beautiful, blossoming campaka trees, most delightful to the mind.
आम्रैर्गुडालैः पनसैः खर्जूरैर्नारिकेलकैः
With mango, sugarcane, jackfruit, date, and coconut trees.
तुङ्गैराम्रातकैर्जम्बुसमूहैश्च फलान्वितैः
With tall āmrātaka trees and clusters of jambu trees laden with fruit.
सर्वतः शोभिताभिश्च फलैस्तैः पुष्पितैरहो
On all sides, it was adorned with those fruits and blossoming flowers—how wonderful!
परिखानां रहः स्थाने चकार मार्गमुत्तमम्
In a secluded spot among the moats, he made an excellent path.
संकेतेन मणिस्तम्भैश्छादितैः स्वल्पपाथसा
By secret sign, with jewel pillars, and a narrow path concealed.
परिखोपरिभागे च प्राकारं सुमनोहरम्
In the area above the moat, he constructed a most delightful wall.
प्रस्तरस्य प्रमाणं च पञ्चविंशतिहस्तकम्
The measurement of the stone pavement was twenty-five cubits.
बाह्ये द्वाभ्यां च संयुक्तमन्तरे सप्तभिस्तथा
On the outside, joined by two, and within, likewise by seven.
स्वर्णसारविनिर्माणकलशोज्ज्वलशेखरम् 4.17.
Its summit shone with finials crafted from pure gold.
