श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
Śrī Kṛṣṇa said:
देवप्रीतिं विना शक्ता नहि द्रष्टुं च केचन
Without the favor of the gods, no one is able to see.
प्रातर्यूयं गृहान्रम्यान्द्रक्ष्यथाद्य ध्रुवं मुदा
Tomorrow morning, you will surely see your beautiful homes again with joy.
देवीं च वटमूलस्थां पूजां कुरुत चण्डिकाम् भुक्त्वा भोगान्दिने रात्रौ तत्रैव सुषुपुर्मुदा
Worship Caṇḍikā, the goddess who dwells at the foot of the banyan tree; after enjoying pleasures during the day, at night they slept there with happiness.
सुप्तेषु व्रजनन्देषु नक्तं वृन्दावने वने
When the residents of Vraja were asleep at night in the forest of Vṛndāvana,
निद्रितासु च गोपीषु रम्यतल्पस्थितासु च
And the gopīs too were asleep, lying on their lovely beds,
कासुचिच्छिशुयुक्तासु सखीयुक्तासु कासुचित्
Some with their children, some with their friends,
पूर्णेन्दुकौमुदीयुक्ते स्वर्गादपि मनोहरे
In a night adorned with the full moon and moonlight, more enchanting than heaven,
सर्वप्राणिनि निश्चेष्टे मुहूर्ते पञ्चमे गते
When all living beings were motionless, as the fifth watch of the night passed,
बिभ्रद्दिव्यांशुकं सूक्ष्मं रत्नमाल्यं मनोहरम्
Wearing a divine, delicate garment and a charming jeweled garland,
ज्ञानेन वयसा वृद्धो दर्शनीयः किशोरवत्
Elderly in wisdom and age, yet beautiful like a youth,
विशिष्टशिल्पनिपुणैः सार्द्धं शिल्पित्रिकोटिभिः
Together with craftsmen distinguished for their skill, with tens of millions of artisans,
आजग्मुर्यक्षनिकराः कुबेरवनकिंकराः
The hosts of Yakshas, attendants of Kubera's forest, arrived.
पद्मरागकरा केचिदिन्द्रनीलकरा वराः 4.17.
Some bore padmarāga gems, others excellent indranīla stones.
सूर्यकान्तकराश्चान्ये प्रभाकरकरा वराः
Others carried sūryakānta jewels, and some bore radiant gems.
केचिच्च गन्धसाराणां मणीन्द्राणां च वाहकाः
Some were bearers of fragrant substances and lordly jewels.
स्वर्णपात्रघटादीनां वाहकाश्चैव केचन
And some carried golden vessels, pots, and the like.
नगरं कर्तुमारेभे ध्यात्वा कृष्णं शुभेक्षणम्
He began to build the city, meditating on Krishna, the auspicious-eyed.
पुण्यक्षेत्रं तीर्थसारमतिप्रियतमं हरेः
A holy place, the essence of sacred fords, most beloved to Hari.
गोलोकस्य च सोपानं सर्वेषां वाञ्छितप्रदम्
Also the stairway to Goloka, granting all desires to all.
कपाटस्तम्भसोपानसहितैः प्रस्तरैर्वरैः
With excellent stones fitted with doors, pillars, and stairways.
शैलजाश्मविनिर्माणवेदिप्रांगणसंयुतम्
Adorned with platforms and courtyards constructed from mountain stone.
यथोचितबृहत्क्षुद्रद्वारद्वयसमन्वितम्
Furnished with both large and small gates, as appropriate.
सोपानैर्गन्धसाराणां स्तम्भैः शंकुविनिर्मितैः 4.17.
With stairways of fragrant substances and pillars crafted like spires.
वज्रसारविनिर्माणप्राकारैः परिशोभितम् वृषभान्वालयं रम्यं कर्तुमारब्धवान्पुनः
Adorned with ramparts made of adamantine essence, he again began to build the delightful enclosure of Vṛṣabhānu.
प्राकारपरिखायुक्तं चतुर्द्वारान्वितं परम्
Equipped with ramparts and moats, and furnished with four excellent gates.
रत्नसारविकारैश्च तूलिकानिकरैर्वरैः
With walls of precious gems and adorned with rows of fine brushes.
लोहसारकपाटैश्च शोभितं चित्रकृत्रिमैः
And decorated with artistic iron doors, shining with crafted designs.
तदाश्रमैकदेशे च निर्जनेऽतिमनोहरे
In a certain part of the hermitage, in a solitary and most enchanting place.
संभोगार्थं कलावत्याः स्वामिना सह कौतुकात्
For the sake of enjoyment, with Kalāvatī, together with her lord, out of curiosity.
