स्वयं ब्रह्मा च जगतां विधाता सर्वकारकः 1.17.
Brahmā himself is the arranger of worlds and the cause of all actions.
युगलक्षं तपस्तप्तं श्रीकृष्णस्य च वेधसा
A pair of hundred thousand austerities were performed by the creator for Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
असंख्यकालं सुचिरं तपस्तप्तं हरेर्मया
For countless ages, I performed severe austerities for Hari.
अधुना पञ्चवक्त्रेण यन्नामगुणकीर्तनम्
Now, with five mouths, I praise His name and qualities.
मत्तो याति च मृत्युश्च यन्नामगुणकीर्त्तनात्
By the chanting of My name and qualities, even death departs from Me.
सर्वब्रह्माण्डसंहर्त्ताऽप्यहं मृत्युंजयाभिधः
Even as the destroyer of all universes, I am known as the Conqueror of Death.
काले तत्र विलीनोऽहमाविर्भूतस्ततः पुनः
At the proper time, I dissolve there and then manifest again.
गोलोके यः स वैकुण्ठे श्वेतद्वीपे स एव च
He who is in Goloka is the same one in Vaikuntha and also in Svetadvipa.
मन्वन्तरं तु दिव्यानां युगानामेकसप्ततिः
A Manvantara consists of seventy-one divine ages (yugas).
एतत्संख्याविशिष्टस्य शतवर्षायुषो विधेः
This is the reckoning for the lifespan of Brahma, who lives for a hundred such years.
अहं कलानामृषभः कृष्णस्य परमात्मनः 1.17.
Among all portions, I am the foremost, the Supreme Self of Krishna.
इत्युक्त्वा शङ्करस्तत्र विरराम च शौनक
Having spoken thus, Shankara there became silent, O Shaunaka.
धर्म उवाच सर्वान्तरात्मा प्रत्यक्षोऽप्रत्यक्षश्च दुरात्मनः
Dharma said: The inner Self of all, both manifest and unmanifest to the wicked.
अधुनाऽपि सभां विष्णुर्नायात इति यद्वचः
Now also, the statement that Vishnu has not come to the assembly.
महन्निन्दा भवेद्यत्र नैव साधु शृणोति ताम्
Where there is great slander, the virtuous do not listen to it.
श्रुत्वा दैवान्महन्निन्दां श्रीविष्णोः स्मरणाद् बुधः
Upon hearing great slander of Shri Vishnu by the gods, the wise remember Him.
कामतोऽकामतो वाऽपि विष्णुनिन्दां करोति यः
Whoever, whether intentionally or unintentionally, speaks slander of Vishnu,
कुम्भीपाके पचति स यावद्धि ब्रह्मणो वयः
He is cooked in Kumbhipaka hell for as long as Brahma's lifespan.
प्राणी च नरकं याति श्रुतं तत्रैव चेद्ध्रुवम्
And if a living being hears such slander there, he certainly goes to hell.
अप्रत्यक्षं च कुरुते किं वा तं च न मन्यते
Or if he acts as if it is untrue or disregards it,
तस्यात्र निष्कृतिर्नास्ति यावद्वै ब्रह्मणः शतम् स याति कालसूत्रं च यावच्चन्द्रदिवाकरौ ।। 1.17.
For him there is no atonement here as long as Brahma's hundred years endure; he goes to Kaalasutra as long as the moon and sun exist.
विष्णुर्गुरुश्च सर्वेषां जनको ज्ञानदायकः
Vishnu is the guru of all, the father, the giver of knowledge.
एषां च वचनं श्रुत्वा त्रयाणां विप्रपुङ्गव
Hearing the words of these three eminent Brahmins,
ब्राह्मण उवाच नागतो हरिरत्रेति व्यर्थाऽऽकाशसरस्वती
The Brahmin spoke: 'Hari has not come here; Sarasvati's utterance is empty, like the sky.'
इति प्रोक्तं मया भद्रं ब्रूत धर्मार्थमीश्वराः
Thus I have spoken; may it be auspicious. Speak, O lords, for the sake of dharma and meaning.
यूयं च भावुका ब्रूत विष्णुः सर्वत्र सन्ततम्
You, who are insightful, speak: Vishnu is present everywhere, always.
अंशांशिनोर्न भेदश्चेदात्मनश्चेति निश्चितम्
It is established that there is no difference between the part and the whole, nor between the self.
कोटिजन्मदुराराध्यमसाध्यमसतामपि
He is difficult to attain even after millions of births, unattainable even for the wicked.
किं क्षुद्राः किं महान्तश्च वाञ्छन्ति परमं पदम्
Why do the small and the great alike desire the supreme state?
यो विष्णुर्विषयी विश्वे श्वेतद्वीपनिवासकृत्
That Vishnu, the enjoyer, is the creator of the abode in Śvetadvīpa for all the worlds.
