हुताशनश्च वाह्नेन पक्षांश्चैव ददाह सः 4.16.
Agni, with fire, burned the demon's wings.
ईशानस्य च शूलेन बभूव मूर्च्छितोऽसुरः
By Ishana's trident, the demon became unconscious.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे कृष्णः प्रज्वलन्ब्रह्मतेजसा
Meanwhile, Krishna blazed forth with the radiance of Brahman.
तत्सर्वं वमनं कृत्वा प्राणांस्तत्याज दानवः
After vomiting all of that out, the demon gave up his life.
ययौ केलिकदम्बानां काननं सुमनोहरम्
He went to the delightful forest of Kadamba trees for play.
नाम्ना प्रलम्बो बलवान्महाधूर्तश्च शैलवत्
There was one named Pralamba, strong, exceedingly deceitful, and like a mountain.
दुद्रुवुर्बालकाः सर्वे रुरुदुश्च भयातुराः
All the boys ran away and, overcome by fear, began to cry.
बालकान्बोधयामास भयं किमित्युवाच ह
He awakened the boys and asked, 'Why are you afraid?'
भ्रामयित्वा च गगने पातयामास भूतले
After whirling him in the sky, he threw him down upon the earth.
जहसुर्बालकाः सर्वे ननृतुश्च जगुर्मुदा
All the boys laughed, danced, and sang with joy.
गोधनं चारयामास ययौ भाण्डीरमीश्वरः 4.16.
The Lord tended the herd of cows and went to Bhāṇḍīra.
वेष्टयामास तं शीघ्रं खुरेण विलिखन्महीम्
He swiftly wrapped him, scraping the earth with his hoof.
उत्पात्य भ्रामयामास पपात च महीतले
He lifted him up, spun him around, and he fell to the ground.
स भग्नदन्तो दैत्यश्च वज्राङ्गचर्वणादहो
That demon, with broken teeth, was crushed by Vajrāṅga's bite—alas!
स्वर्गे दुन्दुभयो नेदुः पुष्पवृष्टिर्बभूव ह
In heaven, kettledrums resounded and a shower of flowers occurred.
तत्राजग्मुः स्यन्दनस्था द्विभुजाः पीतवाससः
There arrived those with two arms, clad in yellow garments, seated in chariots.
विनोदमुरलीहस्ताः क्वणन्मञ्जीररञ्जिताः
Holding flutes for amusement, adorned with tinkling anklets.
ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नास्या भक्तानुग्रह कातराः
With gentle smiles and radiant faces, eager to bestow grace upon devotees.
भाण्डीरवनमाजग्मुर्यत्र सन्निहितो हरिः
They entered Bhāṇḍīra forest, where Hari was present.
प्रणमय्य हरिं स्तुत्वा जग्मुर्गोलोकमुत्तमम् संप्राप्य दानवीं योनिं बभूबुः कृष्णपार्षदाः
Having bowed to Hari and praised him, they went to the supreme Goloka; attaining a demon birth, they became Krishna's attendants.
नारद उवाच कथयस्व महाभाग कृतं किं परमाद्भुतम् ।। 4.16.
Nārada said: Tell me, O greatly fortunate one, what wondrous deed was accomplished?
नारायण उवाच
Nārāyaṇa said:
श्रुतं महेशवदनात्सूर्यपर्वणि पुष्करे।। हरेर्गुणप्रसङ्गेन कथयामास शंकरः
I heard from Maheśa's mouth, at the festival of the sun in Puṣkara, that Śaṃkara narrated, prompted by Hari's virtues.
संपृष्टो मुनिसंघैश्च मया धर्मेण ब्रह्मणा
Questioned by groups of sages and by me, by Brahmā in accordance with dharma,
कथयामास विस्तार्य सावधानं निशामय
He narrated in detail; listen attentively.
महांस्तपस्विप्रवरो हरिसेवनतत्परः
The great ascetic, foremost among the twice-born, devoted to serving Hari,
सस्मरुः कृष्णपादाब्जं स्वप्ने ज्ञाने दिवानिशम्
Remembered Krishna's lotus feet in dream, in knowledge, day and night.
नित्यं दत्त्वा च कमलं संपूज्य तं पपुर्जलम्
Daily, offering a lotus and worshipping him, they drank water.
चत्वारो वैष्णवश्रेष्ठास्तेपुस्ते पुष्करे तपः
The four foremost Vaishnavas performed austerities at Pushkara.
ज्येष्ठो दुर्वाससो योगं संप्राप्य योगिनां वरः
The eldest, Durvasa, attained yoga, being the best among yogis.
