आरासमण्डलं यावन्नक्तमत्रागमिष्यति
Until the circle of the arena, night will arrive here.
छायां विधाय स्वगृहे स्वयमागत्य मा रुद
Having created a shadow in your own house, come yourself; do not weep.
त्यज शोकं गृहं गच्छ सुन्दरीत्थं प्रबोधिता ।। 4.15.
Abandon sorrow, go home; O beautiful one, thus you are awakened.
ददर्श पुष्पोद्यानं च वनं सद्रत्नमण्डपम्
She saw the flower garden and the forest with its jeweled pavilion.
सा मनोयायिनी देवी निमिषार्धेन नारद
That goddess, moving by mind, O Nārada, arrived in half a blink.
यशोदायै शिशुं दातुमुद्यता सत्युवाच ह
She, ready to give the child to Yaśodā, spoke the truth.
गोष्ठे त्वत्स्वामिना दत्तं प्राप्नोमि यातनां पथि
In the cow-pen, given by your master, I receive pain on the path.
पिच्छिले कर्दमोद्रेके यशोदा वोढुमक्षमा
On slippery, muddy ground, Yaśodā is unable to carry.
गृहं चिरं परित्यक्तं यामि तिष्ठ सुखं सति
Having long abandoned the house, I go; remain happily, O virtuous one.
यशोदा बालकं नीत्वा चुचुम्ब च स्तनं ददौ
Yaśodā, taking the boy, kissed him and gave him her breast.
नित्यं नक्तं रतिं तत्र चकार हरिणा सह सुखदं मोक्षदं पुण्यमपरं कथयामि ते
Always, at night, she enjoyed there with Hari; I will tell you another story, giving happiness, liberation, and merit.
श्रीनारायण उवाच भुक्त्वा पीत्वा च क्रीडार्थं जगाम श्रीवनं मुने
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: After eating and drinking, for play, he went to the beautiful forest, O sage.
तत्र नानाविधां क्रीडां चकार मधुसूदनः
There, Madhusudana engaged in various kinds of play.
ययौ मधुवनं तस्माच्छ्रीकृष्णो गोधनैः सह
From there, Shri Krishna went to Madhuvana together with the herds of cows.
तत्रैकदैत्यो बलवाञ्छ्वेतवर्णो भयंकरः
There was a powerful demon, white in color and terrifying.
दृष्ट्वा च गोकुलं गोष्ठे शिशुभिर्बलकेशवौ
Seeing Gokula in the cowherd settlement, with the children and Balakeshava,
बकग्रस्तं हरिं दृष्ट्वा सर्वे देवा भयान्विताः
When Hari was swallowed by Baka, all the gods became filled with fear.
शक्रश्चिक्षेप वज्रं च मुनेरस्थिविनिर्मितम्
Shakra hurled his thunderbolt, which was fashioned from the bones of a sage.
नीहारास्त्रं शशधरः शीतार्तस्तेन दानवः
The moon, afflicted by cold, released the mist-weapon upon that demon.
वायव्यास्त्रं च वायुश्च तेन स्थानान्तरं ययौ
Vayu released the wind-weapon, and by it, he moved to another place.
हुताशनश्च वाह्नेन पक्षांश्चैव ददाह सः 4.16.
Agni, with fire, burned the demon's wings.
ईशानस्य च शूलेन बभूव मूर्च्छितोऽसुरः
By Ishana's trident, the demon became unconscious.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे कृष्णः प्रज्वलन्ब्रह्मतेजसा
Meanwhile, Krishna blazed forth with the radiance of Brahman.
तत्सर्वं वमनं कृत्वा प्राणांस्तत्याज दानवः
After vomiting all of that out, the demon gave up his life.
ययौ केलिकदम्बानां काननं सुमनोहरम्
He went to the delightful forest of Kadamba trees for play.
नाम्ना प्रलम्बो बलवान्महाधूर्तश्च शैलवत्
There was one named Pralamba, strong, exceedingly deceitful, and like a mountain.
दुद्रुवुर्बालकाः सर्वे रुरुदुश्च भयातुराः
All the boys ran away and, overcome by fear, began to cry.
बालकान्बोधयामास भयं किमित्युवाच ह
He awakened the boys and asked, 'Why are you afraid?'
भ्रामयित्वा च गगने पातयामास भूतले
After whirling him in the sky, he threw him down upon the earth.
जहसुर्बालकाः सर्वे ननृतुश्च जगुर्मुदा
All the boys laughed, danced, and sang with joy.
