शब्दार्द्धं वा तदर्द्धं वा क्षमौ वक्तुं दिनेदिने
Day by day, they became able to speak half a word or even a part of a word.
बालो द्विपादं पादं वा गन्तुं शक्तो बभूव ह
The boy became able to walk two steps, or even one step.
वर्षाधिको हि वयसा कृष्णात्संकर्षणः स्वयम्
Saṃkarṣaṇa was, by age, older than Kṛṣṇa by more than a year.
व्रजन्तौ गोकुले बालौ प्रहृष्टगमने क्षमौ
The two boys wandered in Gokula, joyfully moving about on the ground.
गर्गो जगाम मथुरां वसुदेवाश्रमं मुने 4.13.
Garga went to Mathurā, to the hermitage of Vasudeva, O sage.
मुनिस्तं कथयामास कुशलं सुमहोत्सवम्
The sage told him of the great festival and their well-being.
देवकी परमप्रीत्या पप्रच्छ च पुनःपुनः
Devakī, with utmost affection, asked again and again.
गर्गस्तावाशिषं दत्त्वा जगाम स्वालयं मुदा
Garga, having given them his blessings, joyfully returned to his own home.
श्रीनारायण उवाच पञ्चाशत्कामिनीनां च पतिर्गन्धर्वपुङ्गवः
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The foremost among Gandharvas became the husband of fifty lustful women.
तासां प्राणाधिकस्त्वं च शृङ्गारनिपुणो युवा
Among them, you were dearest to their lives, a youthful master skilled in love.
ततोऽधुना ब्रह्मपुत्रो वैष्णवोच्छिष्टभोजनात्
Thereafter, O son of Brahmā, by eating food left by Vaiṣṇavas—
कथितं कृष्णचरितं नामान्नप्राशनादिकम्
—the story of Kṛṣṇa, including the naming and first feeding of food, was told.
एकदा नन्दपत्नी च स्नानार्थं यमुनां ययौ
Once, Nanda's wife went to the Yamunā for bathing.
दधिदुग्धाज्यतक्रं च नवनीतं मनोरमम्
She saw curds, milk, ghee, buttermilk, and delightful fresh butter.
मधु हैयङ्गवीनं यत्स्वस्तिकं शकटस्थितम्
Honey, clarified butter, and auspicious food placed on a cart—
ददर्श बालकं गोपी स्नात्वाऽऽगत्य स्वमन्दिरम्
After bathing and returning to her house, the cowherd woman saw a boy.
दृष्ट्वा पप्रच्छ बालांश्च अहो कर्मेदमद्भुतम्
Seeing this, she asked the children, 'Ah, what a marvelous deed is this?'
यशोदावचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वमूचुश्च बालकाः
Hearing Yaśodā's words, all the boys spoke.
बालानां वचनं श्रुत्वा चुकोप नन्दगेहिनी
Hearing the words of the boys, Nanda's wife became angry.
पलायमानं गोविन्दं ग्रहीतुं न शशाक ह
She was not able to catch Govinda, who was running away.
यशोदा भ्रमणं कृत्वा विश्रान्ता घर्मसंयुता
After searching, Yaśodā, exhausted and covered in sweat, rested.
विश्रान्तां मातरं दृष्ट्वा कृपालुः पुरुषोत्तमः ।।4.14.
Seeing his mother resting, the compassionate Supreme Person—
करे धृत्वा च तं देवी समानीय स्वमालयम्
The goddess, taking him by the hand, brought him to her own house.
बद्ध्वा कृष्णं यशोदा सा जगाम स्वालयं प्रति
Yaśodā, having bound Kṛṣṇa, went towards her own house.
श्रीकृष्णस्पर्शमात्रेण सहसा तत्र नारद
O Nārada, at the mere touch of Śrī Kṛṣṇa—
सुवेषः पुरुषो दिव्यो वृक्षादाविर्बभूव ह
—a divinely adorned man suddenly appeared there from the tree.
प्रणम्य जगतीनाथं शातकौम्भपरिच्छदम्
Having bowed to the Lord of the universe, adorned with golden ornaments,
सा वृक्षपतनं दृष्ट्वा भिया त्रस्ता व्रजेश्वरी
She, seeing the tree fall, was frightened and distressed, O queen of Vraja,
आजग्मुर्गोकुलस्थाश्च गोपा गोप्यश्च तद्गृहम्
The cowherds and cowherd women dwelling in Gokula came to that house,
अत्यन्तस्थविरे काले तनयोऽयं बभूव ह
At that very old age, a son was indeed born,
