नानाविधानि स्वर्णानि धनानि विविधानि च
He gave various kinds of gold and diverse wealth.
बन्दिभ्यो भिक्षुकेभ्यश्च सुवर्णं विपुलं ददौ
He bestowed abundant gold upon the bards and mendicants.
ब्राह्मणान्बन्धुवर्गांश्च भिक्षुकांश्च विशेषतः
He especially gave to the Brahmins, relatives, and mendicants.
दीयतां दीयतां चैव खाद्यतां खाद्यतामिति
He said, 'Let it be given, let it be given; let it be eaten, let it be eaten.'
रत्नानि परिपूर्णानि वासांसि भूषणानि च
He provided gems in abundance, along with garments and ornaments.
चारूणि स्वर्णपात्राणि कृतानि विश्वकर्मणा
Beautiful golden vessels, crafted by Viśvakarman, were also given.
शिष्येभ्यः स्वर्णभाराणि प्रददौ विनयान्वितः 4.13.
With humility, he gave his disciples heaps of gold.
श्रीनारायण उवाच तुष्टाव परया भक्त्या प्रणम्य च तमीश्वरम्
Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: He praised that Lord with supreme devotion, bowing before Him.
साश्रुनेत्रः सपुलको भक्तिनम्रात्मकन्धरः
His eyes filled with tears, his body thrilled, and his head bowed in devotion.
गर्ग उवाच प्रसन्नो भव मामीश देहि दास्यं पदाम्बुजे
Garga said: Be gracious to me, Lord; grant me service at Your lotus feet.
अणिमादिकसिद्धिषु योगेषु मुक्तिषु प्रभो
O Lord, I have no desire for yogic powers like aṇimā, or for liberation.
इन्द्रत्वे वा मनुत्वे वा स्वर्गलोकफले चिरम्
Nor for the reward of heaven, or the status of Indra or Manu, lasting long.
गोलोके वापि पाताले वासे नास्ति मनोरथः
Whether in Goloka or in the netherworld, I have no longing for residence.
त्वन्मन्त्रं शङ्करात्प्राप्य कतिजन्मफलोदयात्
Having received Your mantra from Śaṅkara, as the fruit of many births,
कृपां कुरु कृपासिन्धो दीनबन्धो पदाम्बुजे ।। 4.13.
Show mercy, O ocean of compassion, friend of the lowly, at Your lotus feet.
सर्वेषामीश्वरः सर्वस्त्वत्पादाम्भोजसेवया
The Lord of all, by serving Your lotus feet, becomes master of all.
ब्रह्मा विधाता जगतां त्वत्पादाम्भोजसेवया
Brahmā, the creator of the worlds, by serving Your lotus feet,
त्वत्पादसेवया धर्मः साक्षी च सर्वकर्मणाम्
By serving Your feet, Dharma himself is witness to all actions.
सहस्रवदनः शेषो यत्पादाम्बुजसेवया
Śeṣa, with a thousand faces, by serving Your lotus feet,
सर्वसंपद्विधात्री या देवीनां च परात्परा
She who is the bestower of all prosperity, and supreme among goddesses,
प्रकृतिर्बीजरूपा सा सर्वेषां शक्तिरूपिणी
She is Prakṛti, the original seed, the embodiment of all power.
पार्वती सर्वरूपा सा सर्वेषां बुद्धिरूपिणी
She is Pārvatī, of all forms, the embodiment of all intelligence.
विद्याधिष्ठात्री देवी या ज्ञानमाता सरस्वती
The goddess who presides over knowledge, the mother of wisdom, is Sarasvatī.
सावित्री वेदजननी पुनाति भुवनत्रयम्
Sāvitrī, the mother of the Vedas, purifies the three worlds.
क्षमा जगद्विभर्तुं च रत्नगर्भा वसुन्धरा 4.13.
Kṣamā, who supports the world, and Vasundharā, the earth filled with gems.
राधा ममांशसंभूता तव तुल्या च तेजसा
Rādhā, born from my own portion, is equal to you in brilliance.
यथा शर्वादयो देवा देव्यः पद्मादयो यथा
Just as Śarva and the other gods, and the goddesses beginning with Padmā.
न यास्यामि गृहं नाथ न गृह्णामि धनं तव
O Lord, I will not go home, nor will I accept your wealth.
इति स्तुत्वा साश्रुनेत्रः पपात चरणे हरेः
Having thus praised him, with tearful eyes, he fell at the feet of Hari.
गर्गस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा जहास भक्तवत्सलः
Hearing the words of Garga, the Lord, affectionate to his devotees, smiled.
