गुणान्नामप्रभावं च किंचिज्जानाति मद्गुरुः
My guru knows a little of the power of the name and its qualities.
वेदाः संतो न जानंति महिम्नः षोडशीं कलाम्
The Vedas and the saints do not know even a sixteenth part of his greatness.
यथामति यथाज्ञानं गुरुवक्त्राद्यथा श्रुतम्
As understood, as known, as heard from the mouth of the guru.
देवकीनंदनः श्रीशो यशोदानंदनो हरिः
He is the delight of Devaki, the Lord of Lakshmi, the joy of Yashoda, Hari.
सर्वाधारः सर्वगतिः सर्वकारणकारणम्
He is the support of all, the goal of all, the cause of all causes.
राधाप्राणो राधिकेशो राधिकारमणः स्वयम्
He is the life of Radha, the Lord of Radhika, the lover of Radhika himself.
राधिकाचित्तचोरश्च राधाप्राणाधिकः प्रभुः
He is the thief of Rādhikā’s heart, the Lord who is dearer to Rādhā than her very life.
परिपूर्णतमं ब्रह्म गोविंदो गरुडध्वजः
Govinda, the bearer of Garuḍa on his banner, is the Supreme, most complete Brahman.
जन्ममृत्युहराण्येव रक्ष नंद शुभेक्षण 4.13.
O Nanda, auspicious-eyed one, he alone removes birth and death—protect him.
ज्येष्ठस्य हलिनो नाम्नः संकेतं शृणु मन्मुखात्
Hear from my mouth the meaning of the name of the elder, Halin.
नास्त्यंतोऽस्यैव वेदेषु तेनानंत इति स्मृतः
There is no end to him in the Vedas; therefore, he is remembered as Ananta.
शितिवासा नीलवासान्मुसली मुसलायुधात्
Clad in white, unlike those in blue, he wields a pestle as his weapon.
रोहिणीगर्भवासात्तु रौहिणेयो महामतिः
Born from the womb of Rohiṇī, he is called Rauhiṇeya, of great intelligence.
यास्याम्यहं गृहं नंद सुखं तिष्ठ स्वमंदिरे
I shall go home, Nanda; remain happily in your own house.
निश्चेष्टा नंदपत्नी च जहास बालकः स्वयम्
Nanda’s wife became motionless, and the child himself smiled.
पुटांजलियुतो भूत्वा भक्तिनम्रात्मकंधरः गतश्चेत्त्वं तदा कर्म करिष्यत्येव को महान्
With hands joined in reverence, his head bowed in devotion—if you depart, who else will perform the great deed?
स्वयं शुभेक्षणं कृत्वा कुरु नाम्नाऽन्नप्राशनम्
Having yourself bestowed an auspicious glance, perform the rice-feeding ceremony by name.
तस्यापि का वा राधेति कन्यका कस्य च ध्रुवम् निगूढं परमं तत्त्वं रहस्यं कथयामि ते
Who is she, this Rādhā? Whose daughter is this girl, truly? I shall tell you the supreme, hidden truth, the secret.
पुरा गोलोकवृत्तांतं श्रुतं शंकरवक्त्रतः
Once, I heard the story of Goloka from the mouth of Śaṃkara.
श्रीदामशापाद्दैवेन गोपी राधा च गोकुले
By the curse of Śrīdāma and by fate, Rādhā and the gopīs came to Gokula.
कृष्णस्यार्द्धांगसंभूता नाथस्य सदृशी सती
She, born from half the body of Kṛṣṇa, is the beloved equal of the Lord.
अयोनिसंभवा देवी मूलप्रकृतिरीश्वरी
The goddess, not born from a womb, is the primal nature, the sovereign Lady.
वायुनिःसरणे काले धृत्वा च शिशुविग्रहम्
At the time of the wind’s exhalation, she assumed the form of a child.
वर्धते सा व्रजे राधा शुक्ले चंद्रकला यथा
Rādhā grows up in Vraja like the bright digit of the moon.
एका मूर्तिर्द्विधाभूता भेदो वेदे निरूपितः
One form became two; this distinction is described in the Veda.
द्वे रूपे तेजसा तुल्ये रूपेण च गुणेन च
These two forms are equal in radiance, in appearance, and in quality.
पुरतो गमनेनैव किंतु सावयसाधिका
Yet, by proceeding ahead, one is endowed with limbs to a greater degree.
रचिता साऽस्य प्राणैश्च तत्प्राणैर्मूर्तिमानयम् 4.13.
She was fashioned with his life-breaths, and by those life-breaths, he became embodied.
स्वीकारं सार्थकं कर्तुं गोकुले यत्कृतं पुरा
What was done long ago in Gokula was to fulfill the acceptance meaningfully.
प्रतिज्ञापालनार्थाय भयेशस्य भयं कुतः
For the sake of upholding the promise—what fear can there be for the Lord of fear?
