शुश्राव वार्तामदितिः कश्यपं कद्रुसंयुतम्
Aditi heard news of Kaśyapa together with Kadru.
श्रुत्वा चुकोप साध्वी सा हताशा रतिकातरा
Hearing this, the virtuous lady became angry, despairing and distressed by love.
न देवालययोग्या सा धर्मिष्ठा धर्मनाशिनी
She was not fit for a temple, though righteous, she was a destroyer of righteousness.
श्रुत्वैवं सा चरद्वारा शशाप देवमातरम्
Hearing thus, she, moving through the door, cursed the mother of the gods.
कश्यपो बोधयामास कद्रुं च सर्पमातरम्
Kaśyapa instructed Kadru, the mother of serpents.
त्यज भीतिं लभ सुखं द्रक्ष्यसि श्रीहरेर्मुखम्
Abandon fear, find happiness; you will see the face of glorious Hari.
वांछां पूर्णां च तस्याश्च चकार भगवान्विभुः
The Lord, the all-pervading, fulfilled her every wish.
अदितिर्देवकी चैव सर्पमाता च रोहिणी 4.9.
Aditi, Devakī, the mother of serpents, and Rohiṇī—
रहस्यं गोपनीयं च सर्वं निगदितं मुने
O sage, all this secret and to be concealed has been spoken.
अनंतस्याप्रमेयस्य सहस्रशिरसः प्रभोः
Of Ananta, the immeasurable, the thousand-headed Lord—
जगाम गोकुलं साध्वी वसुदेवाज्ञया मुने
O sage, the virtuous lady went to Gokula by the command of Vasudeva.
देवक्याः सप्तमं गर्भं माया कृष्णाज्ञया तदा
At that time, by Kṛṣṇa's command, Māyā transferred Devakī's seventh embryo.
संस्थाप्य च तदा गर्भं कैलासं सा जगाम ह
Having established the embryo, she then went to Kailāsa.
सुषाव पुत्रं कृष्णांशं तप्तरौप्याभमीश्वरम्
She gave birth to a son, a portion of Kṛṣṇa, shining like molten silver, the Lord.
तस्यैव जन्ममात्रेण देवा मुमुदिरे तदा
At the very moment of his birth, the gods rejoiced.
जयशब्दं शंखशब्दं चक्रुर्देवा मुदान्विताः
The delighted gods made sounds of victory and conch shells.
चिच्छेद नाडीं धात्री च स्नापयामास बालकम्
The midwife cut the umbilical cord and bathed the boy.
परपुत्रोत्सवं नंदश्चकार परमादरात् 4.9.
Nanda performed a grand celebration for another's son with utmost respect.
धनानि नानावस्तूनि तैलं सिंदूरमेव च
He gave wealth, various objects, oil, and vermilion.
जन्माख्यानं च हलिनो रोहिणीचरितं तथा
He narrated the story of the birth, as well as the deeds of Rohiṇī's son.
सुखदं मोक्षदं सारं जन्ममृत्युजरापहम्
This story brings happiness, grants liberation, is the essence, and removes birth, death, and old age.
सर्वाशुभविनाशं च भक्तिदास्यप्रदं हरेः
It destroys all inauspiciousness and bestows the service of devotion to Hari.
गृहीत्वा बालिकां हृष्टो जगाम निजमंदिरम्
Taking the girl, delighted, he went to his own house.
अधुना गोकुले कृष्णचरितं शृणु मंगलम्
Now, in Gokula, listen to the auspicious deeds of Kṛṣṇa.
मंगले सूतिकागारे जयागारे जयान्विते
On an auspicious day, in the birthing chamber, in the victory chamber, accompanied by victory,
अतीव सुंदरं नग्नं पश्यंतं गृहशेखरम्
They saw the exceedingly beautiful, naked child, the ornament of the house.
रुदंतं च हसंतं च् वेणुसंसक्तविग्रहम्
Crying and laughing, holding a flute, was his form.
दृष्ट्वा नंदः स्त्रिया सार्द्धं हरिं हृष्टो बभूव ह 4.9.
Seeing Hari together with his wife, Nanda became delighted.
चिच्छेद नाडीं बालस्य हर्षाद्गोप्यो जयं ददुः
The women, out of joy, cut the boy's umbilical cord and proclaimed victory.
बालिकाश्च वयस्यश्च विप्रपत्न्याश्च सूतिकाम्
The girls, the friends, and the wives of the Brāhmaṇas attended the birthing chamber.
