In a spirit of loving devotion, the daughter of the mountain, accompanied by her mother, carefully gathered fully ripened fruits, each produced according to the proper time and place. She offered them with reverence, along with pure, spotless water, fragrant with camphor and other sweet scents. Betel leaves, excellent and delightful, also perfumed with camphor and aromatic essences, were presented to the son of the mountain in worship. Together, mother and daughter worshipped Lord Ganesha, the embodiment of Brahman, using the sacred mantra: “Om śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ.” With this very mantra, they offered their gifts with deep devotion, knowing that this thirty-two-syllable garland-mantra grants all desires. It is said that by reciting it five hundred thousand times, one attains perfection in the mantra, and simply remembering the name of Ganesha causes obstacles to flee. The devotee who worships thus surely attains eloquence and greatness, without doubt, and the gods themselves are filled with bliss when worshipped with this mantra. A festival was held and the brāhmaṇas were fed, honoring the auspicious occasion. Nārāyaṇa, filled with supreme devotion, praised Ganesha, the destroyer of all obstacles. He spoke, “Lord, I wish to praise you, the eternal light of Brahman, foremost among all gods, the guru of siddhas and yogis, the unmanifest, imperishable, eternal, the true form of the Self. You reside on the far shore of the ocean of worldly existence, in the most rare boat of māyā. You are the bestower of boons, the most excellent, the giver of blessings, the lord even of those who grant boons. You are the object of meditation beyond meditation, unattainable by meditation, righteous. You are the seed of the trees of worldly existence, their sprout, and their support. You are the origin of all, worthy of the foremost worship, revered by all, an ocean of virtues. Neither the five-faced one nor the four-faced one is capable, nor are the four Vedas able; who then are those who speak of the Vedas?” Having offered this praise in the assembly of sages and gods, Nārāyaṇa declared, “Whoever recites this hymn to Ganesha, composed by Vishnu, O sage, the remover of obstacles always destroys obstacles for him. Whoever recites it at the time of departure, with devotion, for him, any bad dream seen becomes a good dream. There will be destruction of enemies and increase of friends. Lakshmi will remain steadily in his house, and there will be growth of sons and grandsons. He attains the certain fruit of pilgrimages and sacrifices.” Narada then asked, “I wish to hear the protective hymn now, O deliverer from the ocean of existence.” Nārāyaṇa replied, “He spoke of Vishnu, the savior of all, the guru of the worlds.” Shani then requested, “O best of those who know the Vedas, tell the protective hymn of the remover of obstacles.” There was no dispute among them, neither by power nor by illusion. Sri Vishnu spoke, “It is very secret in the Puranas and rare in the Agamas. It is spoken in the Kauthuma branch of the Sama Veda, delightful to hear. The kingdom may be given, the head may be given, even life may be given, O son of the Sun. His manifestation and concealment occur by his own will, through his power of illusion. His worship and hymn of praise are ever-present, continually existing in every age. Just as in My descents, there is the taking of birth and form.” Thus, the worship, praise, and protective hymns to Lord Ganesha were revealed, their blessings flowing to all who approach with faith and devotion.
