Listen, O seeker, to the wondrous fruits that arise from holy observances and worship in the sacred land of Bharata. Whoever, with a steadfast vow, adores Lord Shankara during the auspicious months of Chaitra or Magha, and whoever joyfully observes the festival of Shri Rama Navami, such a one, upon being born again, surely obtains deep and unwavering devotion to Lord Rama. If one performs the great autumnal worship of Prakriti, offering food, gifts, incense, and lamps with reverence, that devotee dwells in the world of Shiva for the span of seven Manvantaras. Such a person attains enduring prosperity, blessed with sons and grandsons, and rises to become a king of kings—of this there can be no doubt. And whoever, with heartfelt devotion, spends a fortnight in a holy place in Bharata, that soul delights in Vaikuntha, the abode of Lord Vishnu, for as long as the sun and moon endure. On the full moon day of Kartika, if one establishes the sacred circle of the rasa dance and worships Shri Krishna together with Radha—be it upon a stone or an image—such a devotee dwells in Goloka for the entire age of Brahma. Gradually, with firm devotion and the mantra of Hari, one attains a form like Krishna and becomes his beloved attendant. Those who observe either the white or black Ekadashi, upon returning to Bharata, surely attain devotion to Hari. On the bright Dvadashi in the month of Bhadra, whoever worships Shakra, especially on a Sunday during the solar transition and on the seventh day of the bright fortnight, is honored in the realm of the sun for as long as the sun and moon shine. Whoever worships Savitri on the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight in Jyeshtha, upon returning to earth, becomes endowed with great valor and honor. And whoever worships Sarasvati on the fifth day of the bright fortnight in Magha is honored in Vaikuntha for as long as Brahma’s days and nights endure. One who gives a cow, gold, or similar gifts to a Brahmana in the temple of Vishnu is honored for a period equal to twice the number of hairs on the cow. Returning to earth again, such a giver attains devotion to Vishnu, and is blessed with cows, sons, wisdom, and happiness in every way. Whoever feeds Brahmanas with sweet food in Bharata, upon returning here again, becomes happy and wealthy. Whoever speaks or gives the names of Hari in the land of Bharata, when born again, surely attains devotion to Vishnu. The one who recites a crore of Hari’s names at the holy place of Narayana does not take birth again and is honored in Vaikuntha. Whoever worships Shiva daily, making a linga of earth, is honored in Shiva’s world for a period equal to the measure of dust for a year. And whoever worships a stone daily and drinks water from it, upon rebirth, attains the exceedingly rare devotion to Hari. All austerities and all vows, when performed and rebirth is gained, lead one to become a king in Bharata. Finally, whoever bathes at all the holy places on earth, having performed circumambulation, reaps the fruits of all these sacred acts. Thus, the sacred acts performed with devotion in the land of Bharata bestow immense blessings—devotion, prosperity, honor, and liberation—leading the devotee ever closer to the divine.
