Hear now the sacred narrative, as it unfolds from the verses. It is said that whoever utters the name “Śiva” at the moment of death attains liberation, for the auspicious speech of Śiva bestows freedom from bondage. Even those who are submerged in the ocean of sorrow, grieving over the loss of wealth and loved ones, find their sins destroyed and liberation granted, regardless of whether they are children or servants, simply by uttering the name “Śiva.” Indeed, those whose speech is constantly adorned with the name of Śiva are blessed. Having spoken thus to the wielder of the trident, Krishna imparted the wish-fulfilling mantra. The Blessed Lord declared, “In due time, you shall worship Śiva, the giver and abode of auspiciousness.” Amidst the radiance of all the gods, a beautiful-faced one appeared. In a special age, the Satya Yuga, when truth prevails, you will abandon your mortal body, reproached by the lord of sacrifice, and then enjoy a thousand divine years in the company of Śambhu. This will occur when all the worlds are venerated in grand ceremonies, and village deities are worshipped in towns and cities. By Krishna’s command, various tantras composed by Śiva will be followed, and great beings will serve as your attendants. Those who worship you, Mother, in the holy land of Bharata, will be blessed. Having spoken these words, Krishna bestowed upon her the eleven-syllabled mantra. With proper method and compassion for devotees, he meditated on her and granted her the power suitable for creation, bestowing all perfections and wish-fulfillment. The Lord of the universe gave the thirteen-syllabled mantra, and, having given this righteous mantra, he also imparted the knowledge of accomplishments. In this way, Krishna gave the supreme mantras and similar gifts to Kubera and others. The Blessed Lord said, “Create, O greatly fortunate one, the supreme and various creations, O Vidhi.” Having spoken thus to Brahma, Krishna gave him a beautiful garland. Sauti then spoke: In the beginning, the earth was created from the fat of Madhu and Kaitabha. Eight principal, delightful mountains were brought forth: Sumeru, Kailasa, Malaya, and Himalaya among them. The seven oceans and rivers of various kinds were created—oceans of salt, sugarcane juice, wine, clarified butter, curds, milk, and water. Upon the lotus-shaped earth, the seven continents arose. Listen, O Brahmin, to the account of the land called Dvīpa, which was created according to divine ordinance. The Lord made eight cities atop the eight peaks of Meru. At the base of Ananta, the Lord of the worlds built a city. He fashioned Bhūrloka, Bhuvarloka, and the exceedingly delightful Svarloka. At the summit is Brahmaloka, free from old age and suffering. Beneath this, the Lord of the universe constructed the seven Pātālas: Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Talātala, and others. With the seven continents, the seven heavens, and the seven Pātālas, thus the entire countless universe is indeed an artificial creation. In each universe, the guardians of the directions are Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara. Such is the sacred account, faithfully retold as revealed in the verses.
