Her arrival filled the Lord’s assembly with a dazzling brilliance, her splendor so great that it concealed all else and made the gathering supremely radiant. She was the unborn one, the mother of all, blessed and honored, full of innate dignity and self-respect. In that luminous moment, Rādhā turned to the Lord of the universe and spoke. With longing in her eyes, she said, “I am always at your side, gazing at you, my heart full of desire, my eyes reddened with passion. So often, overcome by your beauty, I faint, my body shivering with goosebumps. And you, too, always look upon me with longing, smiling as you do. Yet, it is you alone who repeatedly act in such improper ways. “Take this beloved of yours, O libertine, and leave Goloka. I saw you with Virajā in the sandalwood forest. Once, simply by hearing my name from your lips, she vanished from sight. That forest was a hundred yojanas wide and four times as long. When I returned home, you went to her again. Then, by her yogic power, she rose from the water as a perfected yoginī. You embraced her and deposited your seed. “I saw you again with a beautiful gopī in the champaka grove. Her beauty, leaving her body, entered the orb of the moon. That which you have given, you distributed with a pure heart—a portion to the lotus-faced women, a portion to the king, a portion to sandalwood pastes, and a portion to the waters; a portion to fruits and grains, and to those that are well-ripened. “You were seen, together with the radiant Gopī, in the forest of Vṛndāvana. Her radiance, too, left her body and entered the orb of the sun. That which you gave before, you distributed with love and in tears—a portion to the fire, a portion to kings, a portion to groups of thieves, and a portion also to serpents; a portion to women endowed with good fortune, and to those who are renowned. “You were seen, together with the peaceful Gopī, in the circle of the rāsa dance. The palace was adorned with jeweled lamps and built entirely of jewels. The fragrant betel you offered was enjoyed by her. At the mere sound of my name, you became invisible. Then her body became endowed with the highest qualities. A portion was given to those devoted to your mantra, and to the Vaiṣṇavas as well. “Once, I saw you together with the Gopī, who was accompanied by forgiveness. She was adorned with jewels and anointed with beautiful sandalwood paste. After your new union, happiness overwhelmed you, and you were immediately embraced by sleep. Your yellow garment was taken, and your enchanting flute as well. Later, at the words of your friends, these were returned to you with love. “Out of shame, Kṣamā abandoned her body and entered the earth. What you have given, you divided and offered with love, weeping before—this was for the righteous, for the sake of dharma, and a little for the weak.
