In the sacred narrative, it is revealed that the transformative power of receiving the mantra uplifts not only the individual, but also a hundred ancestors before and after him. The blessings extend to his sister, brother, nephew, and maternal uncle, as well as to his guru, the giver of knowledge, his friend, and companion. All these dear ones are elevated together simply by the act of receiving the mantra. Such a person, touched by the mantra’s grace, purifies the holy places of Bhārata merely by his presence. The very ground where his feet touch becomes a sacred site. Vaiṣṇavas, devoted followers of Viṣṇu who always partake of offerings, refrain from eating otherwise, and their touch sanctifies all holy waters. Their sins flee from them, just as serpents flee from Garuḍa. Viṣṇu’s Sudarśana disc offers them constant protection. These best among Vaiṣṇavas speak with trembling voices and tearful eyes, surrendering their homes and all they possess to the Lord. The Lord proclaims that everything, from Brahmā’s exalted position down to the smallest blade of grass, all that moves and does not move, arises from Him. Countless millions of universes, with Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and others, are radiant, supreme, and graceful forms for devotees. All beings born of nature come forth from Him and return to Him. Having spoken thus, the Lord of gods became silent before them. Then Gaṅgā addressed the king, saying, “By your command and my austerity at this time, whatever sins the sinful may give to me, for how long shall my stay be limited in Bhārata? Whatever else I desire, O all-knowing one, you know it all.” Śrī Kṛṣṇa replied, “Your husband, in the form of Rudra, will become the salt ocean. The ocean is my own portion, and you are the embodiment of Lakṣmī. As many rivers as there are—Bhāratī and others—in Bhārata, from today, O goddess of gods, you will enjoy secret union with the ocean for five thousand years of Kali. They will please you with hymns composed by Bhagiratha. By meditating as taught by Kauthuma, they will worship you after contemplating you.” He continued, “Whoever says ‘Ganga, Ganga’ even among hundreds of people, the sin from the bathing of thousands of sinners will become yours. The sin from touching the corpses of thousands of sinners will also be yours. Wherever there is Ganga, and praise of my name and qualities, together with the best rivers—Sarasvati and others, O auspicious one—by merely touching your dust, even a sinner becomes purified. Those who, with knowledge and devotion to you, remember my name, will become the foremost attendants of Hari for a long time.” The Lord further declared, “When the body of one who has died with much merit is placed upon you, and after arranging the body and offering the prescribed rites, if an ignorant person gives up life by touching your water, or elsewhere gives up life remembering your name beforehand, or elsewhere gives up life remembering my name beforehand, they too are blessed.” Thus, the story unfolds, revealing the immense sanctity and grace bestowed by the mantra, the Vaiṣṇavas, and the sacred river Gaṅgā, whose touch, remembrance, and worship purify and uplift countless souls.
