All beings, spirits, and serpents together with humans,
The Maruts, Mātariśvan, Rudras, gods, and the Ashvins,
The Ādityas, Ṛbhus, Viśvedevas, Sādhyas, and the ancestors,
These celestial gods dwell among the stars and planets,
From Venus onward, up to the realm of vision, those who have passed away and reside in the earth,
Thus, these have been described in order, arising from the utterance of Brahma,
All these are burned by the rays of the seven suns,
Bhṛgu, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, and others in succession,
Without essence and without possession, there, they are indeed those of upward-flowing seed,
All the Sāvarṇa Manus of the Manvantaras are remembered thereafter,
Having established yoga, austerity, and purity within themselves,
The seventh world, Satya, is indeed for those who do not return along the path,
By its extent and measure, Bhūrloka is thus remembered,
The region between the sun and the pole star is called the heavenly world, the sky,
The seven worlds have been explained; I will now speak of their attainments,
All those on earth and in heaven who drink soma and clarified butter,
Their attainments are to be understood as mental, having five characteristics,
These gods indeed worship with all sacrifices, mutually,
The intermediate beings, mentioned immediately after the first, are now again described.
For those whose duties have ceased, their perfection is indeed mental.
O Brahmins, I shall now briefly tell you further about them.
Marīci, Kaśyapa, Dakṣa, Vasiṣṭha, Aṅgirā, and Bhṛgu—
These were previously mentally created here by Brahmā.
Indeed, at the destruction of the kalpa and at those times,
Those who possess desires reach the flames of the fire of dissolution.
In the blazing worlds of Maharloka, they take refuge only in the people.
Among them, those who have equal power and likewise bear similar forms,
When the night has passed, from Brahmā whose origin is unmanifest,
All the accomplished ones, beginning with Svāyambhuva and ending with Marīci,
The Yāmas and others, in order from the youngest onward, are of Prajāpati.
