द्वात्रिंशच्च तथा कोट्यः संख्याताः संख्यया द्विजैः
And thirty-two crores have been counted by the twice-born, according to calculation.
अशीतिश्च सहस्राणि एष कालः प्लवस्य तु
And there are eighty thousand; this is the duration of the deluge.
महाभूतषु लीयन्त प्रजाः सर्वाश्चतुर्विधाः
All beings of four kinds dissolve into the great elements.
सलिलेनाप्लुते लोके नष्टे स्थावरजङ्गमे
When the world is flooded with water, all that is stationary and moving is destroyed.
निरालोके प्रदग्धे तु नैशेन तमसा वृते
When all was consumed and enveloped by the darkness of night, with no light remaining,
तावदेकार्मवे ज्ञेयं यावदासीदहः प्रभोः
Only a single day of the Lord is to be understood as lasting for that period.
अहोरात्रस्तथैवास्य क्रमेण परिवर्तते
Day and night, in this way, alternate for him in succession.
त्रैलोक्ये यानि सत्त्वानि गतिमन्तिध्रुवाणि च
All beings in the three worlds, both those with movement and those that are fixed,
अतीता वर्तमानाश्च तथैवानागताः प्रजाः
The past, present, and likewise the future generations,
परार्द्धं द्विगुणं चापि परमायुः प्रकीर्त्ततम्
The supreme lifespan is declared to be a parārdha, and even twice that.
स्थित्यन्तं प्रतिसर्गश्च ब्रह्मणः परमेष्ठिनः
The duration, the end, and the dissolution of Brahmā, the supreme lord,
तथैव प्रतिसर्गेण ब्रह्मा समुपशाम्यति
In the same way, with each dissolution, Brahmā comes to rest.
महत्प्रलीयते व्यक्ते गुणसाम्यं ततो भवेत्
The great principle dissolves into the manifest, and then the equilibrium of qualities arises.
समासेन समाख्यातो भूयः किं वर्मयामि वः
This has been briefly explained; what more shall I declare to you?
कीर्त्तयेद्वर्णयेद्वापि महतीं सिद्धिमाप्नुयात्
Whoever recites or narrates this attains great accomplishment.
धर्मा वैशेषिकाश्चैव आचीर्णाः सूक्ष्मदर्शिभिः
The particular duties have been practiced by those who perceive the subtle.
चतुर्दशैते मनवः कीर्तिताः कीर्तिवर्द्धनाः
These fourteen Manus have been proclaimed, increasing fame.
देवाश्च ऋषयश्चैव मनवः पितरस्तथा
The gods, the sages, the Manus, and likewise the ancestors,
ब्राह्मणैः क्षत्रियैर्वैश्यैर्धार्मिकैः सहितैः सरैः
Along with the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and all the righteous,
विनिवृत्ताधिकारास्ते यावन्मन्वन्तरक्षयः
Their authority ceases when the Manvantara comes to an end.
महर्ल्लोकेति यत्प्रोक्तं मातरिश्वंस्त्वया विभोः
That which is called Maharloka, O mighty one, has been spoken by you as Mātariśva.
प्रोवाच मधुरं वाक्यं यथा तत्त्वेन तत्त्ववित्
He spoke sweet words, as one who knows the truth, in accordance with reality.
लोकाख्यानि तु यानि स्युर्येषां तिष्ठन्ति मानवाः
The worlds by name are those in which human beings dwell.
भूरादयस्तु सत्यान्ताः सप्त लोकाः कृतास्त्विह
Beginning with Bhū and ending with Satya, seven worlds have indeed been established here.
स्थानानि स्थानिभिः सार्द्धं कृतानि तु निबन्धनम्
Abodes, together with their inhabitants, have been made as their foundation.
स्थानान्येतानि चत्वारि स्मृतान्यावर्णकानि च
These four abodes are remembered, along with the lower ones without distinction.
यानि नैमित्तिकानि स्युस्तिष्ठन्त्याभूतसंप्लवात्
Those that are occasional remain until the dissolution of beings.
एकान्तिकानि तानि स्युस्तिष्ठन्तीहाप्रसंयमात्
Those that are perpetual remain here due to the absence of destruction.
भूर्लोकः प्रथमस्तेषां द्वितीयस्तु भुवः स्मृतः
Of these, Bhūloka is the first; the second is known as Bhuvaḥ.
जनस्तु पञ्चमो लोकस्तपः षष्ठो विभाव्यते
Jana is the fifth world, and Tapas is understood as the sixth.
