पितृभिर्मनुभिः सार्द्धं क्षीणे मन्वन्तरे तदा
Then, when the Manvantara is finished, the ancestors together with the Manus.
ततः स्थाना नि शुभ्राणि स्थानिनां तानि वै तदा
Then, the pure places of the established ones remain at that time.
ततस्तेषु व्यतीतेषु त्रैलोक्यस्येश्वरेष्विह
Then, when those rulers of the three worlds have passed away here.
अजिताद्या गणा यत्र आयुष्मन्तश्चतुर्दश
There, the groups beginning with Ajita, fourteen in number, are long-lived.
सशरीराश्च श्रूयन्ते जनलोके सहानुगाः
They are heard to remain in the world of Janas, together with their followers, in bodily form.
भूतादिष्ववशिष्टेषु स्थावरां तेषु तेषु वै
Among the remaining beings, the immovable ones are found in each of those places.
देवेषु च गतेष्वूर्द्ध्वं सायुज्यं कल्पवासिनाम्
When the gods ascend, those who dwell for a kalpa attain union.
संस्थापयति वै सर्गमहर्दृष्ट्वा युगक्षये
He establishes creation again, having witnessed the great dissolution at the end of the age.
रात्रिं युगसहस्रान्तां ते ऽहोरात्रविदो जनाः
Those who know day and night call the night the end of a thousand ages.
त्रिविधिः सर्वभूतानामित्येष प्रतिसंचरः
This is the threefold dissolution of all beings.
प्रतिसर्गे तु भूतानां प्राकृतः करणक्षयः
At the re-creation of beings, the destruction of the natural faculties occurs.
ततः संहृत्य तान्ब्रह्मा देवांस्त्रैलोक्यवासिनः
Then Brahma withdraws those gods who dwell in the three worlds.
सुषुप्सुर्भगवान्ब्रह्मा प्रजाः संहरते तदा
The blessed Brahma, desiring sleep, then absorbs the creatures.
तत्रात्मस्थाः प्रजाः कर्तुं प्रपेदे स प्रजापतिः
There, the lord of creatures resolved to create beings established within himself.
तया यान्यल्पसाराणि सत्त्वानि वृथिवीतले
By that, those beings of little essence on the earth's surface—
सप्तरश्मिरथो भूत्वा उदत्तिष्ठद्विभावसुः
The radiant one, becoming a chariot with seven rays, rose up.
हरीतारश्मयस्तस्यदीप्यमानास्तु सप्ततिः
His green rays, seventy in number, shine forth.
भौमं काष्ठेन्धनं तेजो भृशमद्भिस्तु दीप्यते
The earthly fuel is ignited intensely by the brilliance of waters.
नावृष्ट्या तपते सूर्य्यो नावृष्ट्या परिषिच्यते
The sun burns without rain, and without rain he is drenched.
तस्मादपः पिबन्यो वै दीप्यते रविरंबरे
Therefore, drinking the waters, the sun blazes in the sky.
तेनाहारेण संदीप्ताः सूर्याः सप्त भवन्त्युत
By that nourishment, the seven suns become inflamed.
चतुर्लोकमिमं सर्वं दहन्ति शिखिनस्तदा
Then, the flaming ones burn all this fourfold world.
दीप्यन्ते भास्कराः सप्त युगान्ताग्निप्रतापिनः
The seven radiant ones blaze forth, empowered by the fire at the end of the age.
स्वं समावृत्य तिष्ठन्ति निर्दहन्तो वसुंधराम्
Enveloping themselves, they remain, scorching the earth.
साद्रिनद्यर्णवा पृथ्वी निस्नेहा समपद्यत
The earth, along with its mountains, rivers, and oceans, became devoid of moisture.
अधश्चोर्ध्वं च तिर्यक् च संरूद्धा सूर्यरश्मिभिः
Below, above, and across, it was blocked by the rays of the sun.
एकत्वमुपयातानामेकज्वाला भवत्युत
Of those that had become one, a single flame indeed arises.
चतुर्लोकमिदं सर्वं निर्दहत्याशु तेजसा
With its radiance, it swiftly burns up all these four worlds.
निर्वृक्षा निस्तृणा भूमिः कूर्मपृष्ठसमा भवेत्
The earth becomes without trees and grass, level like the back of a tortoise.
सर्वमेव तदर्चिर्भिः पूर्णं जाज्वल्यते घनः
All of it, filled with those flames, blazes intensely like a solid mass.
