असाधना हतस्वाश्च व्याधिशोकनिपीडिताः
Deprived of means and bereft of their own strength, afflicted by disease and sorrow,
अनावृष्टिहताश्चैव परस्परवधेन च
Stricken by drought and mutual slaughter,
त्यक्त्वा पुराणि ग्रामांश्च भविष्यन्ति वनौकसः
Abandoning ancient villages, they will become dwellers of the forests.
नष्टे स्नेहे दुरापन्ना भ्रष्टस्नेहाः सुहृज्जनः
When affection is lost and adversity prevails, friendships and bonds will be broken.
सरित्पर्वतसेविन्यो भविष्यन्ति प्रजास्तदा
Then, people will dwell along rivers and mountains.
अङ्गान्कलिङ्गान्वङ्गांश्च काश्मीरान्काशिकोशलान्
The peoples of Anga, Kaliṅga, Vaṅga, Kashmir, Kāśi, and Kosala,
कृत्स्नं हिमवतः पृष्ठं कूलं च लवणांभसः
The entire expanse of the Himalayas and the shores of the salt sea,
मृगैर्मीनैर्विहङ्गैश्च श्वापदैश्चेक्षुभिस्तथा
Will be inhabited by wild animals, fish, birds, beasts of prey, and sugarcane,
चीरं पर्णं च विविधं वल्कलान्यजिनानि च
And by those wearing bark garments, various leaves, tree fiber, and animal skins.
बीजान्नानि तथा निम्नेष्वी हन्तः काष्ठशङ्कुभिः
They will eat seeds and grains, and in lowlands, will dig with wooden stakes.
नदीर्वत्स्यन्ति तोयार्थे नूनमाश्रित्य मानवाः
People will surely live by rivers for the sake of water, seeking shelter there.
बहुमन्याः प्रजाहीनाः शौचाचारविवर्जिताः
Few in number, lacking in virtue, and disregarding purity and good conduct,
हीनान्दीनांस्तथाधर्मान्प्रजा समनुवर्त्स्यति
The people will follow those who are deficient, miserable, and unrighteous.
दुर्बला विषयग्लाना जराया संपरिप्लुताः
Weak, exhausted by sense pleasures, and overwhelmed by old age,
वृत्त्यर्थमभिलिप्स्यन्तश्चरिष्यन्ति वसुंधराम्
They will roam the earth seeking a livelihood.
क्षीणे कलियुगे तस्मिन्दिव्ये वर्षसहस्रके
When the Kali age is depleted, in that divine thousand-year period,
स संध्यांशे तु निःशेषे कृतं वै प्रतिपत्स्यते
When that twilight portion is completely finished, it will indeed be taken up again.
एकराशौ भविष्यन्ति तदा कृतयुगं भवेत्
Then all will be in one sign; at that time, the Krita Yuga will arise.
अतीता वर्तमानाश्च तथैवानागताश्च ये
Those who are past, present, and likewise those yet to come—
एतद्वर्षसहस्रं तु ज्ञेयं पञ्चाशदुत्तरम्
This period is to be understood as one thousand and fifty years.
अन्तरं च शतान्यष्टौ षट्त्रिंशच्च समाः स्मृताः
And the interval is reckoned as eight hundred and thirty-six years.
भविष्यैस्तत्र संख्याताः पुराणज्ञैः श्रुतार्षिभिः
There, the numbers have been declared by the knowers of the Puranas and the sages who have heard them.
सप्तविंशैः शतैर्भाव्या अन्ध्राणां ते ऽन्वयाः पुनः
Again, the lineages of the Andhras will exist for twenty-seven hundred years.
सप्तर्षयस्तु तिष्ठन्ति पर्यायेण शतंशतम्
The Seven Sages remain, each for a hundred years in turn.
मासा दिव्याः स्मृताः षट्च दिव्याब्दाश्चैव सप्त हि
Six divine months are reckoned, and indeed, seven divine years.
सप्तर्षीणां तु यौ पूर्वौ दृश्येते उत्तरादिशि
Of the Seven Sages, the two who appear first are seen in the northern direction.
तेन सप्तर्षयो युक्ता ज्ञेया व्योम्नि शतं समाः
With them, the Seven Sages are to be known as united in the sky for a hundred years.
सप्तर्षयो ह्यथायुक्ताः काले परीक्षिते शतम्
When the Seven Sages are thus joined, the measured period is a hundred years.
इमास्तदा तु प्रकृतीर्व्यापत्स्यन्ते प्रजा भृशम्
Then, at that time, these natures will be destroyed, and the people will greatly perish.
श्रौतस्मार्त्ते प्रशिथिले धर्मे वर्णाश्रमे तदा
