ब्राह्मण्यं प्राप्य कक्षीवान्सहस्रमसृजत्सुतान्
Having attained the state of a Brahmin, Kakṣīvān begot a thousand sons.
इत्येष दीर्घतमसो बलेर्वैरोचनस्य वै
Thus, this is the account of Dīrghatamas, the son of Virocana, son of Bali.
बलिस्तानभिषिच्येह पञ्च पुत्रानकल्मषान्
Bali, having anointed his five sinless sons here,
अदृश्यः सर्वभूतानां कालाकाक्षी चरत्युत
moves unseen among all beings, with eyes like time and crow.
सो ऽपराधात्सुदेष्णाया अनपानो ऽभवन्नृपः
Because of the offense of Sudeṣṇā, the king became Anapāna.
पुत्रो दिविरथस्यासीद्विद्वान्धर्मरथो नृपः
The son of Diviratha was the wise and righteous king Dharmaratha.
बृहद्बलान्वये जाता महावीर्यपराक्रमाः
In the lineage of Bṛhadbala were born those of great valor and prowess.
अत्रानुवंशश्लोको ऽयं भविष्यज्ज्ञैरुदाहृतः
Here, this verse about the succession is recited by those who know the future.
सुमित्रं प्राप्य राजानं संस्थां प्राप्स्यति वै कलौ
Having attained Sumitra as king, he will indeed reach his end in the Kali age.
अत ऊर्ध्वं प्रवक्ष्यामि मगधो यो बृहद्रथः
Now I shall declare further about Bṛhadratha, the Magadha king.
अतीता वर्त्तमानाश्च भविष्याश्च तथा पुनः
Those who have passed, those who are present, and those who will be, again likewise.
संग्रामे भारते तस्मिन्सहदेवो निपातितः
In that Bhārata war, Sahadeva was slain.
पञ्चाशतं तथाष्टौ च समा राज्यमकारयत्
He ruled the kingdom for fifty-eight years.
अयुतायुस्तु षड्विंशद्राज्यं वर्षाण्यकारयत्
Ayutāyu ruled the kingdom for twenty-six years.
पञ्चाशतं समाः षट् च सुक्षत्रः प्राप्तवान्महीम्
Sukṣatra obtained the earth for fifty-six years.
सेनाजित्सांप्रतं चापि एता वै भोक्ष्यते समाः
And Senājit, at present, will also enjoy these years.
रिपुञ्जयो महाबाहुर्महाबुद्धिपराक्रमः
Ripuñjaya, mighty-armed, of great intellect and prowess,
अष्टपञ्जाशतं जाब्दान्राज्ये स्थास्यति वै शुचिः
the pure one, will remain in the kingdom for fifty-eight years.
सुव्रतस्तु चतुःषष्टिं राज्यं प्राप्स्यति वीर्यवान्
But Suvrata, powerful and steadfast in his vows, will obtain the kingdom for sixty-four years.
भोक्ष्यते नृपतिश्चेमा अष्टपञ्चाशतं समाः
The king will enjoy this earth for fifty-eight years.
चत्वारिंशद्दशाष्टौ च दृढसेनो भविष्यति
Dṛḍhasena will rule for forty-eight and ten years.
चत्वारिंशत्समा राजा सुनेत्रो भोक्ष्यते ततः
Then King Sunetra will enjoy the kingdom for forty years.
प्राप्येमं विश्वाजिच्चापि पञ्चविंशद्भविष्यति
Having attained this, Viśvājit too will rule for twenty-five years.
द्वाविंशच्च नृपा ह्येते भवितारो बृहद्रथाः
And these kings, numbering twenty-two, will be of the Bṛhadratha line.
बृहद्रथेष्वतीतेषु वीरहन्तृष्ववर्त्तिषु
When the Bṛhadrathas have passed, and the slayers of heroes are no longer in power,
मिषतां क्षत्रियाणां हि प्रद्योतिं नृपतिं बलात्
While the Kṣatriyas look on, Pradyota will forcibly become king.
त्रयोविंशत्समा राजा भविता स नरोत्तमः
That excellent man will be king for twenty-three years.
विशाखयूपो भविता नृपः पञ्चाशतं समाः
Viśākhayūpa will be king for fifty years.
भविष्यति समा विंशत्तत्सुतो नन्दिवर्द्धनः
His son Nandivardhana will rule for twenty years.
हत्वा तेषां यशः कृत्स्नं शिशुनागो भविष्यति
Having destroyed all their fame, Śiśunāga will arise.
