With curd mixed with salt, and also naked and anointed,
Then, O goddess, you will obtain sons as desired by your mind.
Coming into contact with the apāna, she, feeling disgust, withdrew.
Without apāna, you will give birth to a son, the elder one, O Kumāra.
O greatly fortunate one, you ought not to give me such a son.
But I shall give you a grandson equal to a goddess, O Suprata.
Then Dīrghatamas touched her womb and spoke.
By him, your womb was filled, like the ocean on the full moon night.
They were radiant, valiant, performers of sacrifices, and righteous as well.
From them came Vaṅga, Kaliṅga, Puṇḍra, and also Suhma.
Thus, these sons were formerly given by Dīrghatamas to Bali.
The great-souled one had no offspring among his own wives.
Then Surabhi, pleased, spoke to Dīrghatamas.
Because of your unwavering devotion to us, O sage, I am pleased with you.
And whatever other sin of yours, descended from Bṛhaspati, remains in your body—
As soon as it is merely smelled, it is instantly destroyed in darkness.
Then, having been purified by the cow, he became Gautama.
As instructed by his father, he then performed great austerities.
Having cast off faults along with his brother, the lord attained Brāhmaṇahood.
By you, O dear one, having a worthy and illustrious son, your purpose is fulfilled.
Having attained the state of a Brahmin, Kakṣīvān begot a thousand sons.
Thus, this is the account of Dīrghatamas, the son of Virocana, son of Bali.
Bali, having anointed his five sinless sons here,
moves unseen among all beings, with eyes like time and crow.
Because of the offense of Sudeṣṇā, the king became Anapāna.
The son of Diviratha was the wise and righteous king Dharmaratha.
In the lineage of Bṛhadbala were born those of great valor and prowess.
Here, this verse about the succession is recited by those who know the future.
Having attained Sumitra as king, he will indeed reach his end in the Kali age.
Now I shall declare further about Bṛhadratha, the Magadha king.
