द्विजो भूत्वा शुभे काले बलिं वैरोचनं जगौ
Becoming a Brahmin at an auspicious time, he approached Bali, the son of Virocana.
दातुमर्हसि मे राजन्विक्रमांस्त्रीनिति प्रभुः
The lord said, 'O king, you ought to grant me three steps.'
वामनं तं च विज्ञाय ततो ऽदान्मुदितः स्वयम्
Recognizing him as Vāmana, Bali joyfully gave them himself.
त्रिभिः क्रमैर्विश्वमिदं जगदाक्रामत प्रभुः
With three strides, the lord traversed this entire universe.
प्रकाशयन्दिशः सर्वाः प्रदिशश्च महायशाः
The illustrious one illuminated all the directions and the intermediate quarters.
आसुरीं श्रियमाहृत्य त्रींल्लोकांश्च जनार्द्दनः
Janārdana, having taken away the demonic prosperity and the three worlds,
नमुचिः शंबरश्चैव प्रह्रादश्चैव विष्णुना
Namuci, Shambara, and Prahlada were indeed slain by Vishnu.
महाभूतानि भूतात्मा सविशेषाणि माधवः
Madhava, the soul of beings, became the great elements along with their distinctions.
तस्य गात्रे जगत्सर्वमात्मानमनुपश्यति
In his body, one perceives the entire universe as his own self.
तद्वै रूपमुपेन्द्रस्य देवादानवमानवाः
That very form of Upendra is beheld by gods, demons, and humans.
बलिः सितो महापाशैः सबन्धुः ससुत्दृद्गणः
Bali, bound with mighty fetters, along with his kin and steadfast followers—
ततः सर्वामरैश्वर्यं दत्त्वेन्द्राय महात्मने
Then, having given all the sovereignty of the immortals to the great-souled Indra—
एतास्तिस्रः समृतास्तस्य दिव्याः संभूतयः शुभाः
These three are remembered as his auspicious and divine manifestations.
त्रेतायुगे तु दशमे दत्तात्रेयो बभूव ह
Indeed, in the tenth Treta Yuga, Dattatreya was born.
पञ्चमः पञ्चदश्यां तु त्रेतायां संबभूव ह
In the fifth and fifteenth Treta Yugas, he indeed appeared.
एकोनविंशयां त्रेतायां सर्वक्षत्रान्तकृद्विभुः
In the nineteenth Treta Yuga, the lord who destroyed all the Kshatriyas appeared.
चतुर्विंशे युगे रामो वसिष्ठेन पुरोधसा
In the twenty-fourth Yuga, Rama, with Vasistha as his priest—
अष्टमो द्वापरे विष्णुरष्टाविंशे पराशरात्
In the eighth Dvapara, Vishnu, in the twenty-eighth, from Parashara—
तथैव नवमे विष्णुरदित्याः कश्यपात्मजः
Likewise, in the ninth, Vishnu, son of Kashyapa and Aditi—
अप्रमेयो नियोगश्च यतकामवरो वशी
Immeasurable, the master of commands, the bestower of desired boons, self-controlled—
न प्रमातुं महाबाहुं शक्यो ऽसौ मधुसूदनः
That Madhusudana, mighty-armed, cannot be measured.
अष्टाविंशतिके तद्वद्द्वापरस्याथ संक्षये
In the twenty-eighth, likewise, at the end of the Dvapara—
माहयन्सर्वभूतानि योगात्मा योगमायया
Deluding all beings, the soul of yoga, by his yogic illusion—
प्रविष्टो मानुषीं योनिं प्रच्छन्नश्चरते महीम्
He entered a human womb and moves about the earth in concealment.
यत्र कंसं च शाल्वं च द्विविदं च महासुरम्
There, Kamsa and Shalva and the mighty asura Dvivida,
नागं कुवलयापीडं मल्लं राजगृहाधिपम्
The serpent Kuvalayapida, the wrestler, and the lord of Rajagriha,
छिन्नं बाहुसहस्रं च बाणस्याद्भुतकर्मणा
And the thousand arms of Bāṇa, wondrous in deed, were cut off,
हृतानि च महीपानां सर्वरत्नानि तेजसा
And the jewels of all the kings were taken away by his brilliance,
एते लोकहितार्थाय प्रादुर्भावा महात्मनः
These manifestations of the great soul occurred for the welfare of the world.
कल्किर्विष्णुयशा नाम पाराशर्यः प्रतापवान्
