सूर्यस्य यत्प्रकाशेन वीक्षन्ते चक्षुषा प्रजाः
By the light of the Sun, creatures see with their eyes.
अद्यते पीयते चैव ह्यन्नपानादिकाम्यया
It is by his desire that food and drink are eaten and drunk.
यया धत्ते प्रजाः सर्वाः स्थिरीभूतेन तेजसा
By that steadfast energy, he sustains all creatures.
या च स्थिता शरीरेषु भूतानां प्राणवृत्तिभिः
That which abides in the bodies of beings as the activity of life-breaths,
पीताशितानि पचति भूतानां जठरेष्विह
He digests what is drunk and eaten in the stomachs of beings here.
यानीह शुषिराणि स्युर्देहेष्वन्तर्गतानि वै
Whatever cavities exist here within bodies, indeed, those within,
वैतान्यादीक्षितानां तु या स्थितिर्ब्रह्मवादिनाम्
The state of those initiated from Vaitānya, who are expounders of Brahman,
यत्तु संकल्पकं तस्य प्रजास्विह समास्थितम्
That which is the source of resolve, among the creatures here, is established.
नवोनवो यो भवति जायमानः पुनःपुनः
That which is ever new, arising again and again,
महादेवो ऽमृतात्मा स चन्द्रमा अम्मयः स्मृतः
Mahādeva, whose essence is immortal, is remembered as the Moon, free from impurity.
पत्नी सुवर्च्चला तस्याः पुत्रश्चास्य शनैश्चरः
His wife is Suvarcalā, and his son is Śanaiścara.
तस्या धात्री स्मृता पत्नी पुत्रश्च उशना स्मृतः
Her wife is remembered as Dhātrī, and her son is known as Uśanā.
तस्याः पत्नी विकेशी तु पुत्रो ऽस्याङ्गारकः स्मृतः
Her wife is Vikeśī, and her son is remembered as Aṅgāraka.
तस्याः पत्नी शिवा नाम पुत्रश्चास्या मनोजवः
Her wife is named Śivā, and her son is Manojava.
नाम्ना पशुपतेर्या तु तनुरग्निर्द्विजैः स्मृता
The form of Paśupati, by name, is remembered by the twice-born as Agni.
नाम्ना षष्ठस्य या भीमा तनुराकाशमुच्यते
The formidable form of the sixth, by name, is called Ākāśa.
अग्रा तनुः सप्तमी या दीक्षितो ब्राह्मणः स्मृतः
The foremost, the seventh form, is remembered as the initiated Brāhmaṇa.
नाम्नाष्टमस्य महस्तनुर्या चन्द्रमाः स्मृतः
The great form of the eighth, by name, is remembered as the Moon.
इत्येतास्तनवस्तस्य नामभिः सह कीर्तिताः
Thus these forms of his have been recounted together with their names.
सूर्येप्सूर्व्यां तथा वायावग्नौ व्योम्न्यथ दीक्षिते
In the Sun, the Earth, likewise in Wind, Fire, and Space, and in the initiated,
एवं यो वेत्ति तं देवं तनुभिर्नामभिश्च ह
Whoever knows that god by his forms and names,
इत्येतद्वो मया प्रोक्तं गुह्यं भीमास्य यद्यशः
Thus this secret, the glory of Bhīmāsya, has been declared to you by me.
महादेवस्य देवस्य भृगोस्तु शृणुत प्रजाः
Hear, O descendants of Bhṛgu, of the god Mahādeva.
शुभाशुभप्रदातारौ सर्वप्राणभृतामिह
The two who grant auspicious and inauspicious results to all living beings here,
तयार्ज्येष्ठा तु भगिनी देवी श्रीर्लोकभाविनी
By her was born the eldest sister, the goddess Śrī, who brings forth the worlds.
नारायणात्मजौ तस्यां बलोन्मादौव्यजायताम्
From her, two sons of Nārāyaṇa were born: Bāla and Unmāda.
तस्यान्ये मानसाः पुत्रा आसन् व्योमविचारिणः
Other sons of hers, born from the mind, moved through the sky.
मेरुकल्पे स्मृते भार्ये विधातुर्धातुरेव च
In the Meru epoch, the wives of Vidhātṛ and Dhātṛ are remembered.
प्राणश्चैव मृकण्डश्च ब्रह्मकोशौ सनातनौ
Prāṇa and Mṛkaṇḍa are the two eternal repositories of Brahma.
सुतो वेदशिरास्तस्य धूम्रपत्न्यामजायत
His son, Vedaśiras, was born from his wife Dhūmrā.
