भक्तानर्हसि नस्त्रातुं ज्ञात्वा दीर्घेण चक्षुषा
You ought not to protect those devotees of ours, having recognized them with your far-seeing eye.
अपध्यातास्त्वया ह्यद्य प्रवेक्ष्यामोरसातलम्
Because you have condemned them today, I shall now enter the nethermost region.
एवं शुक्रो ऽनुनीतः संस्ततः कोपं न्यवर्त्तयत्
Thus Śukra, being appeased in this way, gradually let go of his anger.
अवश्यंभावीह्यर्थो ऽयं प्राप्तो वो मयि जाग्रति
This event was indeed destined to happen, and it has come to you while I was awake.
संज्ञा प्रनष्टा या चेयं कामं तां प्रतिलप्स्यथ
The consciousness that was lost—surely, you will regain it as you desire.
मत्प्रसादाच्च युष्माभिर्भुक्तं त्रैलोक्यमूर्ज्जितम्
And by my favor, you have enjoyed the strength of the three worlds.
तावन्तमेव कालं वै ब्रह्मा राज्यमभाषत
Brahmā declared the sovereignty would last only for that period.
लोकानामीश्वरो भावी पौत्रस्तव पुनर्बलिः
In the future, your grandson Bali will become the lord of the worlds again.
तथाहृतेषु लोकेषु न शोको न किलाभवत्
When the worlds were thus taken away, there was indeed no grief.
तस्मादजेन प्रीतेन दत्तं सावर्णिके ऽन्तरे
Therefore, the pleased Unborn One granted (the worlds) for the Sāvarṇi Manvantara.
तस्माददृश्यो भूतानां कालाकाङ्क्षी स तिष्ठति
Therefore, he remains invisible to beings, awaiting the proper time.
तस्मान्निरुत्सुकस्त्वं वै पर्यायं सहसाकुलः
Therefore, you should not be anxious, for the turn will come, though now you are troubled.
ब्रह्मणा प्रतिषिद्धो ऽस्मि भविष्यं जानता प्रभो
I have been restrained by Brahmā, O Lord, who knows what is to come.
दैवतैः सह संरब्धान्सर्वान्वो धारयिष्यतः
You will sustain all those who, together with the gods, become enraged.
ततस्ताभ्यां ययुः सार्द्धं प्रह्लादप्रमुखास्तदा
Then, together with those two, Prahlāda and the others departed at that time.
सहसा शंसमानास्ते जयं काव्येन भाषितम्
Suddenly, as they went, they proclaimed victory in words spoken by Kavi.
अथ देवासुरान्दृष्ट्वा संग्रामे समुपस्थितान्
Then, seeing the gods and asuras assembled for battle,
अजयन्तासुरा देवान्नग्रा देवा अमन्त्रयन्
The asuras defeated the gods, and the gods did not consult together.
तस्माद्यज्ञं समुद्दिश्य कार्यं चात्महितं च यत्
Therefore, one should perform sacrifice and actions that are beneficial to oneself.
अथोपामन्न्रयन्देवाः शण्डामकारै तु तावुभौ
Then the gods, having assembled, persuaded both of them with eunuch-like forms.
यज्ञे चाहूय तौ प्रोक्तौ त्यजन्तामसुरा द्विजौ
In the sacrifice, after summoning them, it was declared that the two Brahmins should abandon the demons.
एवं तत्यजतुस्तौ तु षण्डामकारै तदा सुरान्
Thus, at that time, those two with eunuch-like forms abandoned the gods.
देवासुरान्पराभाव्य शण्डामर्कावुपागमन्
The gods, having defeated the demons, approached the eunuch-like pair.
बाध्यमानास्तदा देवैर्विविशुस्ते रसातलम्
Then, being oppressed by the gods, they entered the netherworld.
ततः प्रभृति शापेन भृगुनैमित्तिकेन च
From that time onward, due to a curse and because of Bhrigu's agency,
कर्तुं धर्मव्यवस्थान मधर्मस्य प्रणाशनम्
the establishment of righteousness and the destruction of unrighteousness was to be carried out.
मनुष्यवध्यांस्तान्सर्वान्ब्रह्मा व्याहरत प्रभुः
The lord Brahmā declared all of them to be fit for killing by humans.
यज्ञं प्रवर्त्तयामास वैन्यो वैवस्वते ऽन्तरे
In the interval of Vainya and Vaivasvata, a sacrifice was initiated.
चतुर्थ्यां तु युगाख्यायामापन्नेषु सुरेष्वथ
Then, when the gods had fallen in the fourth age called Yuga,
द्वितीयो नरसिंहो ऽभूद्रौद्रः सुतपुरस्सरः
The second incarnation, Narasiṃha, fierce and accompanied by his son, appeared.
