जनस्तपाय सत्याय तुभ्यं लोकात्मने नमः
To you, essence of the worlds, who are the Janas, Tapas, and Satya realms, I bow.
तन्मात्रायाथ महते तुभ्यं तत्त्वात्मने नमः
To you, who are the subtle elements and the great principle, the essence of reality, I bow.
शुद्धाय विभवे चैव तुभ्यं नित्यात्मने नमः
To you, who are pure and all-pervading, the eternal self, I bow.
सत्यान्तमहराद्येषु चतुर्षु च नमो ऽस्तु ते
Homage to you in the four days ending with Satyānta and Mahār.
मद्भक्त इतिब्रह्मण्य सर्वं तत्क्षन्तुमर्हसि
Because I am your devotee and devoted to Brahman, you ought to forgive all this.
इति श्रीब्रह्माण्डे महापुराणे वायुप्रोक्ते मध्यमभागे तृतीय उपोद्धातपादे स्तवसमाप्तिर्नाम द्विसप्ततितमो ऽध्यायः
Thus, in the Śrī Brahmāṇḍa Mahāpurāṇa, as spoken by Vāyu, in the middle section, in the third upoddhāta division, the chapter named 'Conclusion of the Hymn,' the seventy-second chapter.
प्रह्वो ऽतिप्रणतस्तस्मै प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमब्रवीत्
Humbly bowing deeply, with joined palms, he spoke these words to him.
निकामं दर्शनं दत्त्वा तत्रैवान्तरधाद्धरः
Having freely granted his vision, Hara vanished right there.
तिष्ठन्तीं प्राजलिर्भूत्वा जयन्तीमिदमब्रवीत्
Standing with joined palms, Jayantī spoke these words:
सहता तपसा युक्तं किमर्थं मां जिगीष्सि
Endowed with great austerity, for what purpose do you seek to conquer me?
स्नेहेन चैव सुश्रोणि प्रीतो ऽस्मि वरवर्णिनि
Out of affection, O lovely-hipped one, I am pleased with you, O radiant lady.
तं ते संपूरयाम्यद्य यद्यपि स्यात्सुदुर्लभः
Today I shall fulfill your desire, even if it is very difficult to obtain.
चिकीर्षितं मे ब्रह्मिष्ठ त्वं हि वेत्थ यथातथम्
O best of the Brahmins, you know exactly what I wish to accomplish.
माहेन्द्री त्वं वरारोहे मद्धितार्थमिहागता
You are the consort of Indra, O beautiful one, who has come here for my benefit.
अदृश्यं सर्वभूतैस्तु संप्रयोगमिहेच्छसि
You desire union here, remaining unseen by all beings.
इमं वृणीष्व कामं त्वं मत्तो वै वल्गुभाषिणि
Choose this boon from me, O sweet-spoken one.
ततः स्वगृहमागम्य जयत्या सहितः प्रभुः
Then the lord returned to his own house together with Jayantī.
अदृश्यः सर्वभूतानां मायया संवृतस्तदा
At that time, concealed by illusion, he was invisible to all beings.
अभिजग्सुर्गृहं तस्य मुदितास्तं दिदृक्षवः
Joyful and eager to see him, they came to his house.
लक्षमं तस्य तद् बुद्ध्वा प्रतिजग्मुर्यथागतम्
Recognizing his sign, they departed as they had come.
प्रीत्यर्थे दश वर्षाणि जयन्त्या हितकाम्यया
For the sake of affection, and wishing well for Jayantī, ten years passed.
काव्यस्य रूपमास्थाय सो ऽसुरान्समभाषत
Assuming the form of Kāvyā, he addressed the Asuras.
स्वागतं मम याज्यानां संप्राप्तो ऽस्मि हिताय च
Welcome to my sacrificers; I have come for your welfare.
ततस्ते हृष्टमनसो विद्यार्थमुपपेदिरे
Then, delighted in mind, they approached to learn knowledge.
समयान्ते देवयाजी सद्यो जातमतिस्तदा
At the end of the period, the sacrificer of the gods suddenly became aware.
देवि गच्छाम्यहं द्रष्टुं तव याज्याञ्छुचिस्मिते
O fair-smiling one, I go now to see your sacrificers.
एष ब्रह्मन्सतां धर्मो न धर्मं लोपयामि ते
O Brahman, this is the duty of the virtuous; I do not violate your dharma.
ततो गत्वा सुरान्दृष्ट्वा देवाचार्येण धीमता
Then, having gone and seen the gods, by the wise preceptor of the gods—
काव्यं मामनुजानीध्वमेष ह्याङ्गिरसो मुनिः
Permit me, Kāvyā, for this is the sage Āṅgirasa.
श्रुत्वा तथा ब्रुवाणं तं संभ्रान्ता दितिजास्ततः
Hearing him speak thus, the Daityas became agitated.
