ततो ऽभिशप्तो भृगुणा विष्णुर्भार्यावधे तदा
Then, because he slew a wife, Viṣṇu was cursed by Bhṛgu at that time.
तस्मात्त्वं सप्तकृत्वो वै मनुष्येषु प्रपद्यसे
Therefore, you shall be born among humans seven times.
सर्वलोक हितार्थाय जायते मानुषेष्विह
For the welfare of all worlds, you will be born here among humans.
समानीय ततः काये समायोज्येदमब्रवीत्
Then, having brought the body together, he joined it and spoke this.
यदि कृत्स्नो मया धर्मश्चरितो ज्ञायते ऽपि वा
If I have ever fully practiced righteousness, or even known it—
सत्याभिव्यहृतात्तस्य देवी संजीविता तदा
By the truth of that utterance, the goddess was revived at that time.
ततस्तां सर्वभूतानां दृष्ट्वा सुप्तोत्थितामिव
Then, seeing her as if awakened from sleep among all beings—
दृष्ट्वा संजीवितामेवं देवीं तां भृगुणा तदा
Thus, seeing the goddess revived by Bhṛgu at that time—
असंभ्रान्तेन भृगुणा पत्नी संजीवितां ततः
By the unperturbed Bhṛgu, the wife was then restored to life.
प्रजागरे ततश्चेन्द्रो जयन्तीमात्मनः सुताम्
Then, as she awoke, Indra rejoiced in his own daughter, Jayantī.
एष काव्यो ह्यनिन्द्राय चरते दारुणं तपः
This Kāvyā is performing severe austerity for the sake of Anindra.
गच्छ संभावयस्वैनं श्रमापनयनैः शुभे
Go, honor him with acts that relieve his fatigue, O auspicious one.
देवी सारीन्द्रदुहिता जयन्ती शुभचारिणी
The goddess Jayantī, daughter of the lord of gods, virtuous in conduct,
पित्रा यथोक्तं वाक्यं सा काव्ये कृतवती तदा
Then did as her father had instructed regarding Kāvyā.
गात्रसंवाहनैः काले सेवमाना त्वचासुखैः
Serving him at the proper time with gentle massages and soothing touches,
पूर्णं धूमव्रते चापि घोरे वर्षसहस्रके
And also, during the dreadful thousand years of the smoke vow,
एवं व्रतं त्वयैकेन चीर्णं नान्येन केन चित्
Such a vow has been observed by you alone, by no other whatsoever.
तेजसा वापि विबुधान्सर्वानभिभविष्यसि
By your radiance, you will surpass all the gods.
सांग च सरहस्यं च यज्ञोपनिषदस्तथा
The complete and secret knowledge of sacrifice and the Upanishads as well,
सर्वाभिभावी तेन त्वं द्विजश्रेष्ठो भविष्यसि
By that, you will become the foremost among twice-born, surpassing all.
प्रजेशत्वं धनेशत्वमवध्यत्वं च वै ददौ
He granted lordship over creatures, wealth, and invulnerability.
हर्षात्प्रादुर्बभौ तस्य दिव्यं स्तोत्रं महेशितुः
Out of joy, a divine hymn to the great lord arose from him.
नमो ऽस्तु शितिकण्ठाय सुराद्याय सुवर्चसे
Homage to Śitikaṇṭha, chief among gods, of splendid radiance.
कपर्दिने ह्यूर्द्ध्वरोम्णे हर्यक्षवरदाय च
To the matted-haired one, with hair standing upward, granter of boons to the tawny-eyed.
उष्णीषिणे सुवक्त्राय सहस्राक्षाय मीढुषे
To the turbaned one, of beautiful face, thousand-eyed, the gracious.
निस्वाय मुक्तकेशाय सेनान्ये रोहिताय च
To the deep-breathed, loose-haired one, commander, and the red-hued.
गिरिशायार्कनेत्राय यतये चाज्यपाय च
To the lord of mountains, sun-eyed, ascetic, and receiver of oblations.
सहस्रबाहवे चैव सहस्रामलचक्षुषे
To the thousand-armed, and the one with a thousand pure eyes.
सहस्रशिरसे चैव बहुरूपाय वेधसे
Salutation to the thousand-headed, the manifold-formed, the Creator.
निषङ्गिणे कवचिने सूक्ष्माय क्षपणाय च
To the bearer of the sword, the armored one, the subtle, and the destroyer.
