Many battles occurred among them, all for the sake of the islands.
Now, listen briefly to their names as I intend to tell them.
The third was the Boar (Vārāha), and the fourth was the Churning of the Nectar.
The sixth was the Āḍībaka battle among them, and the seventh is remembered as the Tripura war.
The tenth, called Vārtra, was terrible; after that, the Hālāhala is remembered.
The demon Hiraṇyakaśipu was slain by Narasiṃha.
Hiraṇyākṣa was killed in single combat, in a contest with the deity.
That demon was split in two by the tusk of the Boar incarnation.
Virocana, son of Prahlada, was ever intent on slaying Indra.
Having attained invulnerability from you, through special weapons and the like,
When the gods were unable to endure the might of the anti-gods,
Then the Daityas, the Suras, the Rakshasas, and the Andhakas,
Along with the Vrtras and Danavas, all those assembled together,
Were slain in battle by Mahendra, and Mayachatra, the knower of yoga.
The Daityas and Danavas, all those who had gathered together,
Raji, surrounded in the tumult, conquered all the Daityas.
These twelve battles between gods and asuras thus took place.
King Hiranyakashipu shone for ten thousand years.
For eighty thousand years, he was lord of the three worlds.
And sixty thousand, and thirty niyutas as well.
Prahlada was defeated, along with the asuras, for that period of time.
All this remained under the Daityas for ten yugas, indeed.
Mahendra then regained the three worlds, undisturbed, from Bali.
In turn, the rulership of the three worlds came to Pakaśāsana.
When the gods had departed from the sacrifice, the Asuras said to Kāvya:
Today we are unable to stand; let us enter Rasatala.
Do not fear, O gods; by my own power I shall sustain you.
Even if all sins remain among them, let them persist among the gods.
Then, seeing the gods and asuras protected by the wise Kāvya,
This Kāvya, by force, turns all this away from us.
