संकर्षणो वासुदेवः प्रद्युम्नः सांब एव च
Saṃkarṣaṇa, Vāsudeva, Pradyumna, and also Sāmba.
सप्तर्ष्यः कुबेरश्च यज्ञे मणिवरस्तथा
The seven sages, Kubera, and likewise Maṇivara at the sacrifice.
आदिदेव स्तदा विष्णुरेभिश्च सह दैवतैः
At that time, Ādideva Viṣṇu together with these deities.
भविष्याः कति चान्ये च प्रादुर्भावा महात्मनः
How many other future manifestations of the great-souled one will there be?
पुनः पुनर्मनुष्येषु तन्नः प्रब्रूहि पृच्छताम्
Again and again among humans—tell us of them, for we ask.
विस्तरेणैव सर्वाणि कर्माणि रिपुघातिनः
Describe in detail all the deeds of the destroyer of enemies.
कर्मणामानुपूर्वीं च प्रादुर्भावाश्च ये प्रभो
And the sequence of actions, O Lord, and their manifestations—
कथं स भगवान्विष्णुः सुरेष्वरिनिषूदनः
How did that blessed Viṣṇu, the destroyer of the lords of the gods—
अमरैरावृतं पुण्यं पुण्यकृद्भिरलङ्कृतम्
That holy place, surrounded by immortals and adorned by the righteous—
देवमानुषयोर्नेता धातुर्यः प्रसवो हरिः
Hari, who is the leader of gods and men, the source of creation, the sustainer—
यश्चक्रं वर्त्तयत्येको मनुष्याणां मनोमयम्
He who alone turns the wheel of mankind, fashioned from the mind—
गोपायन यः कुरुते जगतः सर्वकालिकम्
He who shepherds the world through all times—
महाभूतानि भूतात्मा यो दधार चकार ह
He who, being the soul of beings, bore and indeed created the great elements—
येन लोकान्क्रमैर्जित्वा सश्रीकास्त्रिदशाः कृताः
By whom, conquering the worlds in order, the radiant gods were established—
ददौ जितां वसुमतीं सुराणां सुरसत्तमः
He, the best of the gods, gave the conquered earth to the gods—
पूर्वदैत्यो महावीर्यो हिरण्यकशिपुर्हतः
The ancient, mighty demon Hiraṇyakaśipu was slain—
पातालस्थोर्ऽणवगतः पपौ तोयमयं हविः
Dwelling in the netherworld, submerged in water, he drank the oblation made of water—
सहस्रशिरसं देवं यमाहुर्वै युगे युगे
The god with a thousand heads, whom they call so in every age—
एकार्णवगते लोके तत्पङ्कजमपङ्कजम्
When the world was submerged in one ocean, that lotus, the un-lotus—
सर्वदेवमयं कृत्वा सर्वायुधधरं वपुः
Having made a form composed of all the gods, bearing every weapon—
यः शेतेशश्वतं योगमाच्छाद्य तिमिरं महत्
He who lies, veiling the eternal yoga with great darkness—
शक्रं च यो दैत्यगणं च रूद्धं गर्भावमानेन भृशं चकार ह
He who, by the power of contempt in the womb, greatly restrained Indra and the host of demons—
कृत्वा च देवांस्त्रिदिवस्य देवांश्चक्रे सुरेशं पुरुहूतमेव
Having made the gods of heaven, he made Puruhūta, the lord of the gods—
गार्हपत्येन विधिना अन्वाहार्येण कर्मणा
By the rite of the household fire and the act of the oblation-offering—
प्रोक्षणीयं श्रुतं चैव आवभृथ्यं तथैव च
The sprinkling, the recitation, and likewise the ablution.
भोगार्थं यज्ञविधिना यो यज्ञो यज्ञकर्मणि
The sacrifice performed for enjoyment, according to the ritual of sacrifice.
यज्ञियानि च द्रव्याणि यज्ञियांश्च तथानलान्
The sacrificial materials and likewise the sacrificial fires.
विचित्रान्राजसूयदीन्पारमेष्ठ्येन कर्मणा
The various royal consecrations, accomplished by the supreme ritual.
क्षणा निमेषाः काष्ठाश्च कलास्त्रैकाल्यमेव च
Moments, twinklings, time-units, and the threefold unity of time.
ऋतवः कालयोगाश्च प्रमाणं त्रिविधं त्रिषु
The seasons, the conjunctions of time, and the threefold measure in the three domains.
