भङ्गकारस्य तनयौ विश्रुतौ सुमहाबलौ
The two sons of Bhangakara, renowned and exceedingly strong,
वधे च भङ्गकारस्य कृष्णो न प्रीतिमानभूत्
Krishna was not pleased at the slaying of Bhangakara.
अपयाते ततो ऽक्रूरे नावर्षत्पाकशासनः
When Akrura departed, the lord of rain did not shower.
ततः प्रसादयामासुरक्रूरं कुकुरान्धकाः
Then the Kukuras and Andhakas sought to appease Akrura.
प्रववर्ष सहस्राक्षः कुक्षौ जलनिधेस्ततः
Then the thousand-eyed one caused rain to fall into the ocean's womb.
अक्रूरः प्रददौ श्रीमान्प्रीत्यर्थं मुनिपुङ्गवाः
Akrura, the illustrious one, gave (it) out of affection, O best of sages.
सभामध्ये तदा प्राह तमक्रूरं जनार्द्दनः
Then, in the midst of the assembly, Janardana spoke to Akrura.
तत्प्रयच्छ स्वमानार्ह मयि मानार्यकं कृथाः
Give me that jewel which is worthy of honor; do not act with pride toward me.
सुसंरूढो ऽसकृत्प्राप्तस्तदा कालात्ययो महान्
It had been firmly held and received many times; then a great delay had passed.
प्रददौ तं मणिं बभ्रुरक्लेशेन महामतिः
The wise Babhu gave that jewel without difficulty.
ददौ हृष्टमनास्तुष्टस्तं मणिं बभ्रवे पुनः
With a delighted and satisfied mind, he gave that jewel back to Babhu again.
आबध्य गान्दिनीपुत्रो विरराजांशुमानिव
Having fastened it on, the son of Gandini shone like the radiant sun.
वेद मिथ्याभिशप्तिं स न लभेत कथञ्चन
He knows that a false curse does not take effect in any way.
सत्यवान्सत्यसंपन्नः सत्यकस्तस्य चात्मजः
He is truthful, endowed with truth, and his son is also truthful.
भूतेर्युगन्धरः पुत्र इति भौत्यः प्रकीर्त्तितः
Yugandhara is said to be the son of Bhuti, and thus called Bhautya.
जज्ञाते तनयौ वृष्णेः श्वफल्कश्चित्रकश्च यः
Vṛṣṇi had two sons born to him: Śvaphalka and Citraka.
नास्ति व्याधिभयं तत्र न चावृष्टिभयं तथा
There is no fear of disease there, nor is there fear of drought.
त्रीणि वर्षाणि विषये नावर्षत्पाकशासनः
For three years in the region, there was no rain from the rain-god.
श्वफल्कपरिवासेन प्रावर्षत्पाकशासनः
By the presence of Śvaphalka, the rain-god caused rain to fall.
गान्दिनींनाम गां सा हि ददौ विप्राय नित्यशः
She, named Gāndinī, always gave a cow to a Brahmin.
निवसंती न वै जज्ञे गर्भस्थां तां पिताब्रवीत्
While she was dwelling there, she was not born; her father spoke to her while she was in the womb.
प्रोवाच चैनं गर्भस्था सा कन्या गां दिने दिने
That maiden, while in the womb, spoke to him, saying, 'Give a cow every day.'
तथेत्युवाच तां तस्याः पिता काममपूरयत्
Her father replied, 'So be it,' and fulfilled her wish.
तस्याः पुत्रः स्मृतो ऽक्रूरः श्वाफल्को भूरिदक्षिणः
Her son is known as Akrura, Śvaphalka, and Bhūridakṣiṇa.
गिरिरक्षस्ततो यक्षः शत्रुघ्नो ऽथारिमर्दनः
Then Giriraksha, a Yaksha, Shatrughna, and Arimardana were born.
आवाहप्रतिवाहौ च वसुदेवा वराङ्गना
Avaha and Prativaha, Vasudeva, and the excellent woman Varangana were born.
देववानुपदेवश्च जज्ञाते देवसंनिभौ
Devavan and Upadeva, both resembling the gods, were born.
अश्वग्रीवो ऽश्ववाहश्च सुपार्श्वकगवेषणौ
Ashvagriva and Ashvavaha, along with Suparshvaka and Gaveshana, were born.
अभूमिर्बहुभूमिश्च श्रविष्ठाश्रवणे स्त्रियौ
Abhumi and Bahubhumi, and the two women Shraviṣṭha and Shravaṇi, were born.
कुकुरं भजमानं च शुचिं कंबल बर्हिषम्
Kukura, Bhajamana, Shuchi, Kambala, and Barhisha were born.
