प्रविष्टे च बिलं कृष्णे वसुदेवापुरस्सराः
When Krishna entered the cave, the followers of Vasudeva were at the front.
वासुदेवस्तु निर्जित्य जांबवन्तं महाबलम्
But Vāsudeva, having subdued the mighty Jāmbavat,
भगवत्तेजसा ग्रस्तो जांबवांन्प्रसभं मणिम्
Jāmbavat, overpowered by the divine radiance of the Blessed Lord, forcefully gave the jewel.
मणिं स्यमन्तकं चैव जग्रहात्मविशुद्धये
He took the Syamantaka jewel for the purification of his own self.
एवं स मणिमाहृत्य विशोध्यात्मानमात्मना
Thus, having brought back the jewel and purified himself by himself,
कन्यां पुनर्जांबवतीमुवाह मधुसूदनः
Madhusudana then married Jāmbavatī, the daughter.
इमां मिथ्याभिशप्तिं यः कृष्णस्येह व्यपोहिताम्
Whoever here removes this false accusation against Krishna—
दश त्वासन्सत्रजितो भार्यास्तस्यायुतं सुताः
Satrajita had ten wives, and from her, ten thousand sons.
वीरो वातपतिश्चैव तपस्वी च बहुप्रियः
A hero, the lord of the wind, an ascetic, and beloved by many.
सुषुवे सा कुमारीस्तु तिस्रो रूपगुणान्विताः
That maiden gave birth to three sons endowed with beauty and virtue.
तथा तपस्विनी चैव पिता कृष्णय तां ददौ
Thus, the ascetic woman was given by her father to Krishna.
आदत्त तदुपश्रुत्य भोजेन शतधन्वना
Having heard of this, Bhoja and Shatadhanva took her.
अक्रूरो धनमन्विच्छन्मणिं चैव स्यमन्तकम्
Akrura, desiring wealth, also sought the Syamantaka jewel.
रात्रौ तं मणिमादाय ततो ऽक्रूराय दत्तवान्
At night, he took the jewel and then gave it to Akrura.
समयं कारयाञ्चक्रे बोध्यो नान्यस्य चेत्युत
He made an agreement, saying, 'Let no one else be informed.'
मम वै द्वारका सर्वा वेशे तिष्ठत्य संशयम्
Indeed, all of Dvaraka is in doubt about me, residing in the city.
प्रययौ रथमारुह्य नगरं वारणावतम्
He mounted his chariot and departed for the city of Varanavata.
भर्तुर्निवेद्य दुःखार्त्ता पार्श्वस्थाश्रूण्यवर्त्तयत्
Distressed, she reported to her husband and shed tears at his side.
कल्यार्थे चैव भ्रातॄणां न्ययोजयत सात्यकिम्
For the welfare of her brothers, she engaged Satyaki.
पूर्वजं हलिनं श्रीमानिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
The illustrious elder, wielder of the plough, spoke these words.
स्यमन्तको मार्गणीयस्तस्य प्रभुरहं प्रभो
The Syamantaka must be sought; I am its master, O lord.
स्यमन्तकं महाबाहो सामान्यं वो भविष्यति
O mighty-armed, the Syamantaka will become common property for you all.
शतधन्वा तमक्रूरमवैक्षत्सर्वतो दिशम्
Shatadhanva searched everywhere for Akrura.
शक्तो ऽपि शाठ्याद्धार्दिक्यो नाक्रूरो ऽभ्युपपद्यत
Though capable, Hardikya did not approach Akrura out of deceit.
योजनानां शतं साग्रं हृदया प्रत्यपद्यत
He reached a distance of over a hundred yojanas in his heart.
भोजस्य वडवा दिव्या यया कृष्णमयोधयत्
Bhoja's divine mare, by which Krishna was challenged to battle.
दृष्ट्वा रथस्य तां वृद्धिं शतधन्वा समुद्रवत्
Seeing the increase of the chariot, Shatadhanva became like the ocean.
खमुत्पेतुरथ प्राणाः कृष्णो राममथाब्रवीत्
Then, his life departed into the sky; Krishna spoke to Rama.
पद्भ्यां गत्वा हरिष्यामि मणिरत्नं स्यमन्तकम्
I will go on foot and seize the Syamantaka jewel.
मिथिलोपवने तं वै जघान परमास्त्रवित्
In the forest near Mithila, he who was skilled in supreme weapons struck him down.
