कर्कोटकसभां जित्वा पुरीं तत्र न्यवेशयत्

पतिताविद्धफेनौघमावर्त्तक्षिप्तदुस्सहम्
Fallen, struck by masses of foam, and violently tossed by whirlpools, she became unbearable.
देवासुरपरिक्षिप्तं क्षीरोदमिव सागरम्
Surrounded by gods and asuras, she was like the ocean of milk.
सहसा विद्रुता भीता भीमं दृष्ट्वा नृपोत्तमम्
Suddenly, terrified upon seeing the mighty king Bhima, they fled.
सायाह्ने कदलीखञ्च निवातेस्तमिता इव
In the late afternoon, they were stilled as if subdued by the wind, like banana groves.
लङ्केशं मोहयित्वा तु सबलं रावणं बलात्
Then, having deluded Ravana, the lord of Lanka, along with his army, by force—
ततो गत्वा पुलस्त्यस्तमर्जुनं च प्रसाधयत्
After that, Pulastya went and adorned that Arjuna.
तस्य बाहुसहस्रस्य बभूव ज्यातलस्वनः
The twang of the bowstring arose from his thousand arms.
अहो मृधे महावीर्यो भार्गवस्तस्य यो ऽच्छिनत्
Ah, in battle, the mighty Bhargava, who cut them off, was truly powerful.
तृषितेन कदाचित्स भिक्षितश्चित्रभानुना
Once, tormented by thirst, he was begged by Citrabhanu.
पुराणि घोषान्ग्रामांश्च पत्तनानि च सर्वशः
All the ancient villages, towns, and cities—
स तस्य पुरुषेन्द्रस्य प्रतापेन महायशाः
He, renowned, by the splendor of that lord among men—
स शून्यमाश्रमं सर्वं वरुणस्यात्मजस्य वै
He saw the hermitage of Varuna's son entirely deserted.
यं लेभे वरुणः पुत्रं पुरा भास्वन्तमुत्तमम्
Whom Varuna, long ago, had obtained as a radiant and excellent son.
तत्रापवस्तदा क्रोधादर्जुनं शप्तवान्विभुः
There, then, out of anger, the mighty one cursed Arjuna.
तस्मात्ते दुष्करं कर्म कृतमन्यो हनिष्यति
Therefore, for you, a difficult deed has been done; another will slay you.
अर्जुनं च महावीर्यो रामः प्रहरतां वरः
And Arjuna was struck by Rāma, the most valiant among warriors.
तपस्वी ब्राह्मणश्चैव वधिष्यति महाबलः
The ascetic brāhmaṇa, mighty in strength, will indeed kill him.
राज्ञा तेन वरश्चैव स्वयमेव वृतः पुरा
By that king, a boon was also formerly chosen by himself.
कृतास्त्रा बलिनः शूरा धर्मात्मानो यशस्विनः
Skilled in weapons, strong, heroic, righteous, and renowned.
जयध्वजो वंशकर्त्ता अवन्तिषु विशांपतिः
Jayadhvaja, creator of the lineage, lord of the people in Avanti.
तस्य पुत्रशतं त्वेवं तालजङ्घा इतिश्रुतम्
His hundred sons were known as the Tālavaṅghas.
वीतिहोत्राश्च संजाता भोजाश्चावन्तयस्तथा
The Vītihotras were born, as well as the Bhojas and the Avantis.
वीतिहोत्रसुतश्चापि अनन्तो नाम पार्थिवः
And the son of Vītihotra was a king named Ananta.
अनष्ट द्रव्यता चैव तस्य राज्ञो बभूव ह
That king indeed possessed inexhaustible wealth.
न तस्य वित्तनाशः स्यान्नष्टं प्रतिलभेच्च सः
For him, there was no loss of riches; whatever was lost, he regained.
