Your dwelling will be among sinful foreigners, without doubt.
Thus, having cursed Turvasu, Yayati addressed his own son.
But you, Druhyu, accept a form that destroys caste and appearance.
When a thousand years are complete, I will return your youth to you.
He will have no happiness, nor do I desire that old age for him.
You, who are born from my heart, do not give me your own youth.
You will never have the ability to cross by boat.
Anu, you must accept sin together with old age.
He does not offer fire at the proper time; I do not desire that old age.
You, who are born from my heart, do not give me your own youth.
Your offspring, though attaining youth, will perish, O Anu.
Puru, you must accept sin together with old age.
Because of the curse of Kavi Usanas, I am not satisfied with youth.
When a thousand years are complete, I will return your youth to you.
Thus addressed, the son plainly replied to his father.
I will accept, O King, the sin together with old age from you.
Covered by old age, I will bear your age and form.
Puru, I am pleased; may good befall you. Since you are pleased, I give this to you.
With Pūru's consent, King Yayāti then accepted back his own old age.
Out of respect and due to his age, Yayāti, the son of Nahusha,
As he wished, with enthusiasm, at the proper time, and with pleasure,
He satisfied the gods with sacrifices and the ancestors with śrāddha rites.
He honored guests with food and drink, and protected the Vaiśyas.
By righteousness, he delighted all his subjects as was fitting.
That king, lion-like in stride, young and active in his domain,
While pursuing desires, seeing also their faults,
When the king saw those desires increasing,
Having attained those desires, the king became both satisfied and weary.
He counted the divisions of time—kalās and kāṣṭhās—
As he pleased, with enthusiasm, and at the proper time, O subduer of foes,
